Card partners and deals
- JAL Card, a group company, is the main co-brand issuer; the results release credits the segment's growth to "a rise in mileage points issued associated with JAL Card payment volume".
How the miles are accounted for
- JAL reports miles inside a "Mileage, Lifestyle and Infrastructure" segment rather than as a standalone program, so revenue and EBIT include other lifestyle businesses.
- The mileage deferred revenue balance sits in the annual securities report and was not readable for this page.
What it means
The driver the company names is card spend: miles issued in the non-aviation business rose 20%, and the results release attributes the segment's gain to "a rise in mileage points issued associated with JAL Card payment volume". Every mile a bank buys is revenue that arrives before any seat is used.
Two figures appear in JAL's documents, ¥222.2 billion for the whole segment and ¥147.6 billion for its mileage, finance and commerce component. Both are JAL's own numbers; the difference is the infrastructure and lifestyle businesses bundled into the wider segment.
Group context: revenue of ¥2,012.5 billion, EBIT of ¥218.0 billion and net profit of ¥137.6 billion in FY2025. Loyalty and lifestyle therefore supplied about a fifth of group EBIT.
What it means for your JAL Mileage Bank balance
A program that earns more from selling miles to banks than from flights has an incentive to keep issuing them, and the deferred revenue line is the airline's own estimate of what an average outstanding mile will cost it to honour. Compare that with published valuations and with what Points Plug pays to see where your balance stands.
