Virgin Australia Velocity award chart and sweet spots

Velocity prices Reward Seats from fixed tables by the distance of the one-way journey, counting every sector unless there is a journey break. Virgin Australia domestic economy has a range of prices within each band (5,900 to 12,900 points up to 600 miles); Virgin Australia international economy, business class and every partner price are a single figure per band. Any Seat bookings are priced from the cash fare and need more points overall, and Points + Pay needs at least 100 points per person per sector.

Partner awards follow three tables: one for Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways, one for Air Canada, ANA and South African Airways, and a cheaper one for United and Virgin Atlantic. The figures below are Velocity's own tables from 21 January 2025; its program changes page lists no later repricing, and its August 2026 announcement still quotes Reward Seats from 5,900 points.

From Velocity's tables effective 21 January 2025. Longer Virgin Australia domestic journeys run to 19,900 to 39,900 in economy and 59,500 in business at 3,601 to 4,800 miles, and the Virgin Australia international table to 44,800 and 95,500 at 7,001 to 8,500 miles; Velocity's page does not say which table prices the Qatar-operated flights to Doha. Hawaiian Airlines was on the Air Canada and ANA table until the partnership ended on 1 July 2025, and Singapore Airlines First class is not bookable with Velocity Points for now.

One way in economy up to 600 miles at the lowest price level, the lead-in since 17 October 2024. The same band costs up to 12,900 at higher levels and 15,500 in business.

United business between the US West Coast and Australia

102,000 points

One way for 7,001 to 8,500 miles, such as Los Angeles to Sydney, from the United and Virgin Atlantic table; economy is 48,000. The same band costs 113,000 on Air Canada or ANA and 119,500 on Singapore Airlines or Qatar Airways.

Across the Atlantic on Virgin Atlantic or United

51,500 points

Business class one way for 2,401 to 3,600 miles, which covers New York to London; premium economy is 37,500 and economy 23,500, plus taxes and carrier charges.

Singapore Airlines through KrisFlyer

1.55 : 1

Velocity Points convert to KrisFlyer miles at 1.55 to 1 with a 5,000-point minimum, useful while Velocity cannot book Singapore Airlines First class. Conversions cannot be reversed.

Fees and surcharges

  • Changes cost 4,500 points or $35 per person on domestic Reward Seats and 7,500 points or $60 on international and partner Reward Seats, at least 24 hours before the flight, plus any fare difference.
  • Cancellations cost the same, at least 24 hours before the first flight. Nothing is refunded once travel has started or if a passenger checks in and does not fly, and booking and credit card fees are not refunded.
  • Booking by phone through the Membership Contact Centre costs $40 or 5,200 points per person on domestic and short-haul international flights and $70 or 8,800 points on partner flights that can be booked online; partners that can only be booked by phone carry no fee.
  • Taxes, fees and carrier charges are paid in cash. Singapore Airlines charges US$40 in economy, US$80 in premium economy, US$120 in business and US$130 in first up to 4,200 miles, and US$65, US$130, US$200 and US$215 beyond.

Routing and stopover rules

  • Reward Seats are priced one way on the total miles of all sectors in the journey, except where there is a journey break.
  • Online bookings close 1 hour before a Virgin Australia domestic or short-haul international flight and 24 hours before a partner flight; Singapore Airlines Reward Seats can be booked only on the Virgin Australia website.
  • A booking cannot be converted between Any Seat and Reward Seat, points upgrades cannot be used on a Reward Seat, tickets are valid for 12 months and names cannot be changed.
  • Economy Reward Seats on the Qatar Airways-operated Virgin Australia long-haul flights do not include free advance seat selection.

Recent and upcoming changes

  • 17 October 2024: lead-in Virgin Australia domestic economy Reward Seats cut to 5,900 points.
  • 21 January 2025: higher price levels on Virgin Australia domestic and short-haul international Reward Seats, and partner Reward Seats on selected routes, went up; Singapore Airlines carrier charges were set at US$40 to US$215.
  • 1 July 2025: the Hawaiian Airlines partnership ended. Virgin Australia long-haul flights to Doha, operated by Qatar Airways, were set to start from Sydney, Brisbane and Perth in June 2025 and Melbourne in December 2025.
  • 1 October 2025: Gold benefit periods starting from this date no longer include guaranteed Economy Reward Seats.
