How to claim missing British Airways Club Avios

Log in to your British Airways Club account and use the online Claim missing Avios form within six months of the flight date. Wait at least three days after a British Airways flight, or seven days after a partner flight, before claiming.

New members can claim British Airways flights taken up to three months before joining, but not partner airline flights or non-airline activity from before they joined. Submit the claim with the flight number of the airline that sold the flight, not the one that operated it.

Exceptions and partner rules

  • Partner airline flights taken before you joined the Club cannot be claimed.
  • On a codeshare, a flight with a British Airways flight code earns Avios whoever operates it; a flight with a oneworld airline's code earns only if a oneworld airline also operates it; other flight codes earn no Avios.

  1. Use the same online form and choose the non-flight partner claim reason (in-flight purchases have their own option).
  2. Claims for non-airline activity before you joined are not accepted, and new members cannot claim for hotel stays before enrolment (terms clause 14.15).

How long it takes: Up to eight weeks for non-airline partners.

What to have ready

  • Your British Airways Club membership number, which should be on the booking and given again at check-in.
  • The ticket number, found in the Payment Information section of the e-ticket confirmation email.
  • Copies of boarding passes and tickets as proof; BA says to keep boarding passes and ticket receipts until the Avios appear on your statement.
  • In a dispute, BA may ask for the retained segment of the boarding pass and the passenger receipts for the sector claimed (terms clause 14.12).
  • If BA has given you a claim reference number, quote it in the comments field when you send documents through the supporting documents form.

Flights taken before you joined

  • The claim FAQs say you can claim Avios and tier points for flights you travelled up to three months before you joined the Club.
  • Terms clause 14.11: "A new member may claim Avios and tier points for eligible British Airways-marketed flights taken up to three months prior to the commencement of their membership."
  • Partner airline flights and non-airline partner transactions from before you joined cannot be claimed.

Rules that decide a claim

  • Only the person named on the ticket receives Avios, and the name on your ticket and passport should match the name on your British Airways Club account.
  • Terms clause 12.2 says members are not entitled to Avios if the name given when booking does not match exactly the name on their membership card, or if they gave incomplete information when booking.
  • Quote your name and membership number when booking and when flying (terms clauses 12.1 and 12.5).
  • Reward bookings earn no Avios or tier points, even if you paid to upgrade your cabin.
  • Agency discount, industry discount and airline employee discount tickets, and infant fares, earn no Avios or tier points (terms clause 13.3).
  • BA does not credit Avios or tier points when you are earning in another loyalty programme for the same service, outside special promotions; if they are credited, they can be taken back (terms clause 14.9).

Fees

  • The British Airways Club lists no fee for a missing Avios request.

If British Airways Club refuses a claim

  • If BA asks for proof, send it through the supporting documents form and put your claim reference number in the comments field.
  • Disputes about entitlement to Avios and tier points must be lodged within six months of the date of travel (terms clause 14.12).
  • If the name on your account is wrong, the same supporting documents form accepts a passport, driving licence or certificate to change it.
  • A flight already credited to another loyalty programme cannot also earn Avios (terms clause 14.9), and Avios cannot be moved between accounts except as the Conditions of Use allow (terms clause 22.1).
  • For anything else, contact the British Airways Club service centre.
