How do I join British Airways Club?
Join The British Airways Club free on ba.com; the terms say applications are made online only. Once you are in, you can claim Avios and tier points for British Airways flights flown up to three months before you joined.
Does it cost anything to join British Airways Club?
No. Membership of The British Airways Club is free, and the terms list no joining or annual fee. Household accounts are free to set up as well.
Is there a minimum age to join British Airways Club, and can children have their own account?
You must be 18 or over to apply for your own membership. Children under 18 can be added to a household account to collect Avios, but the Club says members must be 18 before they can spend them.
Where do I find my British Airways Club membership number?
Your membership number is on the digital membership card in the British Airways app and in your account on ba.com; the Club no longer issues plastic cards. You can also log in with the number itself plus your PIN or password.

Does British Airways Club issue a physical membership card, and do I need one?
No physical card is needed: the Club is fully digital, with the card in the British Airways app or printable from ba.com. Gold members and above do get Club bag tags (two initially, two more on renewal).

Does British Airways have an app for managing British Airways Club, and what can it do?
Yes. The British Airways app books flights, checks you in with passport scanning, holds boarding passes, shows your Avios balance, tier progress and vouchers, tracks gate changes and Heathrow T5 lounge occupancy, and handles disruption rebooking, with Face ID login. A separate Avios app tracks transactions and shopping partners and includes Reward Flight Finder.
How do I change the name on my British Airways Club account after marriage or a legal name change?
Upload proof of the new name (marriage certificate, passport, driving licence, birth certificate or decree absolute) through the Club's supporting documents web form, or send it via WhatsApp. BA wants the account name to match your passport.

I accidentally created two British Airways Club accounts. Can they be merged?
The terms allow only one account per person: duplicate memberships are cancelled and any Avios in them forfeited. Contact the Club service centre as soon as you spot a second account rather than leaving both open.

How do I close my British Airways Club account, and what happens to my Avios?
You can cancel at any time by writing to the Club. Under the terms, closing your membership means the loss of all Avios, tier points and lifetime tier points in the account.

Can I join British Airways Club if I live outside the airline's home country?
Yes, membership is open worldwide with local service centres in many countries; the terms only reserve BA's right to exclude particular countries with reasonable notice. US and Canadian residents are covered by a New York law and arbitration clause instead of English law.

Log in to your Club account to update your address (unless you are in a household account), phone number, login details and preferences. Email address changes go through the online form or WhatsApp.

What do I do if I am locked out of my British Airways Club account?
Reset your password with your email address, membership number or username and BA will email instructions. If you have lost access to all of those, or need your two-factor codes reset, use the web form or message BA on WhatsApp; a photo ID check is required before MFA is reset.

If I join British Airways Club after a flight, can I still claim Avios for it?
Yes, for British Airways flights only: you can claim Avios and tier points for BA flights taken up to three months before you joined, as long as the claim is made within six months of the flight. Partner airline and non-airline activity before joining cannot be claimed.

Earning on British Airways flights
What a ticket earns, which fares are excluded, elite bonuses and posting times.
How are Avios calculated on British Airways flights: by fare paid, by distance, or by a fixed amount?
By fare paid. On British Airways you collect Avios per pound of eligible spend (fare plus carrier-imposed charges, cabin upgrades, pre-paid seats and extra bags), not by distance: 6 Avios per £1 for Blue, 7 for Bronze, 8 for Silver and 9 for Gold. See earning.
How many Avios do I earn per dollar (or per mile flown) on British Airways?
Blue members earn 6 Avios per £1 of eligible spend on BA and American Airlines, Bronze 7, Silver 8 and Gold 9. On Iberia the rate is 5, 6, 7 and 8 Avios per €1 respectively.
Do basic economy or light fares on British Airways earn Avios?
Basic fares still collect Avios because earning is based on what you spend; BA only excludes Reward Flights and agency or industry discounted fares. Basic fares do miss out on the extra per-flight tier points introduced in April 2026.
What elite bonus do status members earn on British Airways flights?
Status raises your base rate rather than adding a percentage: Bronze earns 7 Avios per £1, Silver 8 and Gold 9, against 6 for Blue members, on BA and American Airlines fares.
How long after a flight do Avios post to my British Airways Club account?
Avios and tier points appear up to three days after a British Airways flight and up to seven days after a partner flight. If nothing shows by then, claim online within six months.
Do award tickets earn Avios or status credit on British Airways?
No. Reward Flights earn neither Avios nor tier points, although you do earn tier points on eligible add-ons (bags, seats, SAF contributions) bought on a reward booking.
Which British Airways tickets earn no Avios at all?
Reward Flights, agency discounted fares and industry (staff) discounted fares earn nothing. Everything else on a BA-marketed ticket collects Avios on the fare and carrier charges.
Do taxes, fees and surcharges on an British Airways ticket earn Avios?
Carrier-imposed charges added by the airline do earn Avios and tier points, but non-airline taxes and fees such as government taxes and airport charges do not.
If I upgrade a ticket on British Airways, do I earn Avios on the original fare or the upgraded cabin?
You earn on both: the original fare plus the cost of the upgrade. Promotional cash upgrades bought since 18 October 2023 earn Avios on the upgrade price and 1 tier point per £1, and you get the upgraded cabin's baggage allowance. Upgrading a redemption ticket earns no tier points in either cabin.
Do infant or child tickets on British Airways earn Avios?
Infant fares earn nothing: clause 13.3 of the Club terms says infant fares are not eligible for Avios or tier points. A child aged two or over on a full seat earns normally, and can collect the Avios into a household account until they are old enough to spend them.

Do group bookings, tour packages or charter flights on British Airways earn Avios?
Package and tour tickets do. BA says tickets where the fare paid isn't available, including flights in a British Airways Holidays package, collect Avios as a percentage of the miles flown and the cabin, and the Club terms base earning on bulk, consolidator and inclusive tour tickets on where your journey begins and ends (clause 8.3.3). BA's tier points page adds that BA Holidays packages earn tier points on the total cost of the holiday, not just the flights.
Do employee, industry or heavily discounted fares on British Airways earn Avios?
No. Industry discounted and agency discounted fares are explicitly excluded from earning Avios, and the terms also bar tier points on employee discount tickets.
How do I add my British Airways Club number to an existing British Airways booking?
Add your membership number to the booking in Manage My Booking on ba.com or the app before you fly; the Club asks that the number is attached and that your name and date of birth match the ticket. If you forget, claim within six months using the 13-digit ticket number.

All oneworld airlines (Alaska, American, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Hawaiian, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan) plus non-alliance partners such as Aer Lingus, LATAM and China Southern. See oneworld.
How are Avios calculated on partner airline flights credited to British Airways Club?
American Airlines and Iberia use the same spend model as BA (6 to 9 Avios per £1, 5 to 8 per €1 by tier). Other partners pay a percentage of miles flown by booking class, for example Aer Lingus 100% in flexible economy and 250% in flexible business, Qatar Airways business 125%, Japan Airlines First 300%.
Which booking classes on partner airlines earn Avios in British Airways Club, and which earn nothing?
Each partner has its own table by booking class: flexible economy (Y, B, H) typically earns 100% of miles flown, business 125% on Alaska, Cathay Pacific, LATAM, Qantas and Qatar, 250% on Aer Lingus and Japan Airlines, and First 150% on Qantas or 300% on JAL. Check the partner table on the BA page before booking a deep-discount class.
Do partner airline flights count toward elite status in British Airways Club?
Yes. Since 1 April 2025 American Airlines and Iberia flights have earned tier points on eligible spend like BA flights, and from 1 April 2026 they also earn BA's extra tier points by cabin; other partners award tier points as a percentage of miles flown (roughly 2% to 60% depending on airline and booking class).
Does it matter whether a partner flight is ticketed by British Airways or by the partner for British Airways Club earning?
The marketing code matters more than who ticketed it: a BA flight number earns whoever operates the flight, while a partner flight number earns only when a oneworld airline operates it.
Which non-alliance airlines partner with British Airways Club for earning?
Outside oneworld, BA-marketed codeshares and eligible China Southern and LATAM flights earn Avios and tier points, and Aer Lingus has its own earning table in the Club. Other codeshare partners (airBaltic, Airlink, Bangkok Airways, IndiGo, JetBlue, Kenya Airways, Loganair, Porter, Vueling) earn when flown on a BA flight number.
How long do partner airline flights take to post to British Airways Club?
Allow up to seven days for partner airline flights to post (three for BA). After that you can claim online; partner claims take up to four weeks to process.

Can I credit different flights on the same ticket to different programs, or must the whole ticket go to British Airways Club?
Any one flight can only earn in one programme: clause 14.9 of the Club terms says that, special promotions aside, BA does not credit Avios or tier points where you are earning credits in another loyalty programme for the same services.

Do British Airways Club elite members earn a bonus on partner airline flights?
Only on a few partners: American Airlines and Iberia use the tier-based per-pound rates, Finnair adds 10% (Bronze), 15% (Silver) or 25% (Gold), and Japan Airlines adds 25%, 50% or 100% on international flights. Most distance-based partners pay no tier bonus.

Can I earn Avios on trains, buses or ferries through British Airways Club?
Not through a rail partner, but rail and Eurostar journeys booked via Uber Travel earn 2 Avios per £1 in the UK, and LeShuttle (Folkestone to Calais) both collects and accepts Avios.

In the UK, American Express issues the British Airways American Express, Premium Plus and Accelerating Business cards, and Barclays Premier Banking offers Avios Rewards. In the US, Chase issues the British Airways Visa Signature Card.
How many Avios per dollar do British Airways Club credit cards earn?
The US Visa Signature earns 3 Avios per $1 with BA, Iberia and Aer Lingus, 2 on hotels booked direct and 1 elsewhere. In the UK the BA Amex earns 1 Avios per £1 and the Premium Plus 1.5 per £1 (dropping to 1.25 from 7 October 2026).

What sign-up bonus do British Airways Club credit cards typically offer?
As of 2026 the US Visa Signature offers 90,000 Avios after $5,000 spend in three months. The UK Premium Plus is advertising 60,000 (usually 30,000) for £6,000 spend if you apply by 6 October 2026, and the fee-free BA Amex 10,000 (usually 5,000) for £2,000.
Can credit card spending earn elite status or tier credit in British Airways Club?
Only the UK Premium Plus card: until 1 February 2027 it pays up to 2,500 tier points (750 at £15,000, 750 more at £20,000, 1,000 more at £25,000), and from 1 April 2027 the standard rate becomes 1 tier point per £10, capped at 3,000 a year. The US Chase card earns no tier points.

In the US: Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One, Wells Fargo (no minimum) and Bilt at 1:1, Diners Club at 11,000 points to 10,000 Avios, and American Express Membership Rewards, which carries a 30% transfer bonus until 27 September 2026. How long do bank point transfers to British Airways Club take?
Chase says most Ultimate Rewards transfers to its airline partners, The British Airways Club included, go through by the next business day but can take up to 7 business days, and a transfer is final once made. American Express UK lists Membership Rewards transfers to Avios as instant, allowing up to three extra working days if your Club account first has to be enrolled as a partner account. Can I transfer Avios back out of British Airways Club to a bank program?
Not to a bank programme. The only outbound conversion is to Nectar, at 400 Avios to 400 Nectar points, credited within about 10 days.
Does British Airways Club run transfer bonuses from bank programs?
Occasionally. As of 2026 HSBC Premier cardholders get a 20% bonus converting reward points to Avios until 30 September 2026, and Marriott Bonvoy pays 5,000 bonus Avios per 60,000 points transferred.
Must the bank account and British Airways Club account be in the same name for a transfer?
Yes, at Chase: the name on your Chase account must match the name on the frequent flyer account you transfer to, so Ultimate Rewards points can only go to a British Airways Club account in your own name, and the transfer cannot be reversed.

Do British Airways Club credit cards have annual fees, and what perks offset them?
The US Visa Signature is $95 and offsets it with 10% off BA round-trips from the US and up to $600 a year in statement credits for reward-flight taxes to London. The UK BA Amex has no fee; the Premium Plus charges a fee in return for 1.5 Avios per £1 and a two-year, any-cabin Companion Voucher.

Do any British Airways Club credit cards include a companion fare or free flight certificate?
Yes. UK Amex cards earn a Companion Voucher after £15,000 spend in a card year (a second seat for the Avios of one, or 50% off solo), valid 12 months in economy on the free card or 24 months in any cabin on Premium Plus, on BA, Iberia and Aer Lingus. The US Visa Signature earns a Travel Together Ticket after $30,000 in a calendar year.
Is there a business credit card for British Airways Club?
Yes, the British Airways American Express Accelerating Business Card in the UK, currently offering 40,000 bonus Avios (usually 30,000) for £5,000 spend in three months if you apply by 6 October 2026.
Can I get a British Airways Club credit card if I live outside the United States?
Yes. Outside the US the main option is the UK: American Express BA cards and Barclays Premier Avios Rewards (£12 a month for 1,500 Avios plus a joining bonus and an annual upgrade voucher or 7,000 Avios).

Yes, through card-linking: PizzaExpress pays 3 Avios per £1, HelloFresh 1 Avios per £1 (plus 900 for new customers), and Uber Eats 1 Avios per £1 on orders over £25.
Which hotel chains earn Avios in British Airways Club, and can hotel points be converted?

Yes. Avios For Thoughts pays up to 600 bonus Avios and e-Rewards gives 600 Avios for your first completed survey.
Can I buy Avios from British Airways Club, at what price, and is there a yearly cap?
Yes, from 2,000 Avios up to 200,000 Avios per calendar year, if you are 18 or over and have collected Avios in the last 36 months. Gifted or transferred Avios have their own separate 200,000 caps, and buying keeps your whole balance active for 36 months.
Does British Airways Club run bonus promotions on buying Avios?
Yes, periodically. BA has run Balance Booster promotions, for example a 10% bonus to 31 July 2023 on boosting 1x, 2x or 3x the Avios you collected in the previous 30 days. Current promotions sit on the member offers page, which in September 2026 carries a 20% HSBC points conversion bonus and Amex sign-up bonuses rather than a buy-Avios bonus.
Can I gift Avios to another British Airways Club member?
Yes. Members aged 18 or over can gift up to 200,000 Avios per calendar year, in one or more transactions to one or more recipients; the allowance resets on 1 January.

No phone or broadband partners are listed. Lifestyle partners include bp pulse EV charging (up to 4 Avios per £1 in-app), TodayTix (up to 2 per £1), Foxtons (up to 50,000 Avios) and J.P. Morgan Personal Investing (5,000 Avios for a new account).
Can I earn Avios on fuel or groceries with British Airways Club?
Indirectly: Nectar points from Sainsbury's, Argos and Esso convert at 400 Nectar to 250 Avios, BPme Rewards convert 40 points to 25 Avios, and bp pulse charging earns 2 to 4 Avios per £1.
Can I earn Avios on Airbnb, vacation rentals or cruises with British Airways Club?
Airbnb stays and experiences booked through the Avios link earn 2 Avios per £1, €1 or $1 on the accommodation price (excluding taxes, service and cleaning fees), posting within 60 days. Cruises are not listed as a partner.
Does in-flight Wi-Fi, duty free or onboard purchases earn Avios on British Airways?
Onboard and pre-ordered High Life Shop purchases earn 2 Avios per £1, and World Duty Free (Club Avolta) pays 1 Avios per £1 plus 250 on your first shop. Wi-Fi purchases are not listed as earning.

What are the elite status tiers in British Airways Club?
Blue (entry), Bronze, Silver and Gold, with Gold Guest List as an upper Gold level unlocked at 65,000 tier points (40,000 to renew). Bronze maps to oneworld Ruby, Silver to Sapphire and Gold to Emerald.
How do I qualify for elite status in British Airways Club: by spending, segments, distance or points?
By spend. You earn 1 tier point per £1 on BA fares and carrier charges, up to 1,250 extra tier points per flight by cabin and fare type, 2 tier points per £1 on bags, seats and SAF (capped at 2,000 a year), tier points on BA Holidays packages and on Premium Plus Amex spend.
What are the qualification thresholds for each British Airways Club tier?
Bronze at 3,500 tier points, Silver at 7,500, Gold at 20,000 and Gold Guest List at 65,000, of which at least 52,000 must come from British Airways flights or BA Holidays packages. Since 1 April 2025 tier points come from spend at 1 per £1 of eligible fare and extras, topped up by co-branded Amex spend (up to 2,500 a year) and sustainable aviation fuel contributions (up to 1,000).

When does the British Airways Club qualification year start and end, and how long does status last?
The tier point collection year runs 1 April to 31 March (or from your join date to 31 March in your first year). Status earned lasts through the following membership year, and your card expires a month after the year ends, on 30 April.

Do partner airline flights count toward British Airways Club status?
Yes. American Airlines and Iberia have earned tier points on spend since April 2025, and other oneworld and partner airlines earn a percentage of miles flown by cabin and booking class.
Does British Airways Club offer a status match or status challenge?
Not as a standing programme. BA ran a one-off US status match in April to May 2024 (mid-tier competitors to Silver, top tiers to Gold for six months), but it has expired and nothing has replaced it.

Does British Airways Club offer lifetime or million-miler status?
Yes: Gold for life at 550,000 lifetime tier points, renewed automatically each year while you stay a member. Existing balances were converted proportionally when the thresholds changed on 1 April 2025.
If I fall short of requalifying, does British Airways Club drop me one tier or all the way?
It is at BA's discretion: clause 6.4 of the Club terms says your tier may be reduced depending on the tier points earned or eligible flights taken in the previous tier point collection year, and clause 6.3 reviews every member's status at the end of each collection year, before the current membership expires. BA's tier points page adds that tier points reset to zero on 31 March while a tier earned in that year carries on for another 13 months.

Who owns British Airways Club Avios: the member or the airline?
The airline. Clause 21.1 says Avios and all rights of title to them remain with Avios Group (AGL) at all times and never pass to the member, although risk of loss passes to you once they are in your account.

Under clause 24 BA can terminate the membership, cancel all accrued and accruing Avios and any reward tickets, confiscate rewards, and hold the member liable for the full fare of any travel taken on those rewards plus reasonable costs including legal fees. What does an infant cost on a British Airways Club award ticket?
An infant under two who does not occupy a seat is charged 10% of the accompanying member's Avios price on a Reward Flight (clause 15.4 of the Club terms). A child aged two or over pays the full Avios price for the reward.

Can an unaccompanied minor travel on a British Airways Club award ticket?
Only from age 14. Under-14s must travel with someone aged 16 or over on the same or a linked booking, and 14 to 15 year olds need a signed Young Flyers consent form with the booking made by a parent by phone. BA offers no escorted minor service.
Can I pay pet fees with Avios on British Airways, and do pet fees earn Avios?
No. BA carries no pets in the cabin (assistance dogs excepted); animals travel in the hold as cargo through PetAir UK or IAG Cargo, paid separately outside the Club, so there is no Avios payment or earning.
Does British Airways Club offer military, veteran or government member benefits?
Not through the Club. BA's only military-specific offer is a Military Service Fares closed-user-group page for discounted cash fares, and as of 2026 that page says the special discount offer is currently unavailable; the Club's tier and benefit pages list no military or government benefit.
Does British Airways Club offer student or youth benefits?
No. BA has no student or youth discount programme; its FAQ only points students to online resources.
Are there special award rules for medical or bereavement travel in British Airways Club?
No special award pricing, but if you are prevented from travelling by an event beyond your control, clause 17.2 lets BA refund the Avios even inside 24 hours, provided you tell BA promptly, supply evidence and pay the fee.
