Miles & More miles are valued at 1.2 to 1.3 cents each in September 2026, yet AwardWallet's member-reported average of 3.2 cents is the highest of any airline program it tracks. The explanation is Lufthansa First Class: Miles & More is the only program whose members can reliably book it more than two weeks ahead, and those awards return several cents a mile even after surcharges.
Outside that niche the program is expensive. Lufthansa Group flights have been priced dynamically since June 2025 and carry substantial surcharges, partner awards cost more than through most Star Alliance peers, and the miles are hard to earn in the United States, since no bank program transfers in and Marriott Bonvoy no longer lists Miles & More. Miles also expire 36 months after they are earned unless the member holds status or a qualifying credit card.
