Avianca LifeMiles award chart and sweet spots

LifeMiles publishes no award chart. Avianca's help centre tells members to search the Flights section of lifemiles.com to see how many miles each route costs, and LifeMiles' former award chart page (lifemiles.com/eng/inc/starredawards.aspx) now loads empty, so every itinerary, on Avianca or a Star Alliance partner, has to be priced in the search. Whether partner awards still follow a fixed table behind the search cannot be checked on any page LifeMiles publishes.

The only prices LifeMiles has put on a readable page are sale fares from its 2024 US flight deals page, shown below with their dates. A special offers section on lifemiles.com lists current discounts on selected destinations.

Star Alliance awards with the Elite Card

The avianca lifemiles American Express Elite Card ($249) returns a tenth of the miles spent on Star Alliance flight redemptions and takes up to 25% off Avianca awards.

Capital One transfers

1:1

Capital One miles move to LifeMiles at 1:1 from 1,000 miles, so a balance can be topped up for an award already priced in the search. See the transfer partners page.

An elite member aged 18 or over can move miles free within a group of up to seven: one other adult and up to five children.

Fees and surcharges

  • Refund fees on awards for Avianca flights: US$30 on Flex fares, US$50 on Classic, US$75 on Light and US$100 on Basic and Business. The ticket must be unused and issued within the last year, and Miles + Money awards are refunded in miles, not cash.
  • LifeMiles' 2024 US sale terms listed a ticket issue charge of US$25 to US$80 per round trip plus local taxes; LifeMiles publishes no current fee schedule on a readable page.
  • Taxes and any carrier surcharges on partner awards are set in LifeMiles' terms, which load only in its app and could not be checked for this page.
  • US avianca lifemiles American Express cardholders get 5% (standard card) or up to 25% (Elite Card) off the miles price of Avianca awards, and the Elite Card returns 10% of the miles on Star Alliance redemptions.

Routing and stopover rules

  • One-way, round-trip and multi-city itineraries can be searched and booked on lifemiles.com, on Avianca and partner airlines together.
  • An unflown Avianca award issued within the last year can change route, date or time; after the first segment only the date or time can change.
  • Stopover, open-jaw and mixed-cabin rules sit in LifeMiles' terms, which load only in its app and are not published on a readable page.

Recent and upcoming changes

  • For the 2026 qualification year (January 1 to December 31, 2026), elite status needs a qualifying-mile total and a share of those miles from Avianca-operated flights or services bought from Avianca.
  • LifeMiles' former award chart page now loads empty, and no chart has replaced it on a readable page.
  • No 2026 award repricing is announced in the LifeMiles or Avianca help centres; Avianca's newsroom could not be read for this page.

Getting Avianca LifeMiles for these awards

Capital One (1:1), Citi (varies), Bilt (1:1), Wells Fargo (ratio not stated), Marriott (3:1) transfer into Avianca LifeMiles, so a specific award can often be funded from bank points rather than a held balance. If your balance is bigger than the awards you will book, see what the miles are worth or get a cash quote.

Does LifeMiles have an award chart?
No published one. Avianca's help centre directs members to the lifemiles.com flight search to see how many miles each route costs, and LifeMiles' old chart page now loads empty. The only prices on a readable LifeMiles page are 2024 sale fares, such as Miami to Cartagena for 6,060 miles.
Can I cancel a LifeMiles award ticket?
Yes, for Avianca flights, for a fee of US$30 to US$100 depending on the fare, provided the ticket is unused, still valid and was issued within the last year. Which cards transfer to LifeMiles?
Capital One at 1:1 and Marriott Bonvoy at 3:1, without the 5,000-mile bonus Marriott adds for most airlines. Citi lists LifeMiles as a ThankYou partner at a rate that depends on the card. American Express does not list its partners on a public page we could read; Biirdee reports 100,000 Membership Rewards points converting to 100,000 LifeMiles.
