Qantas Frequent Flyer award chart and sweet spots
Qantas publishes full Classic Flight Reward tables by distance zone: one for Qantas, Fiji Airways and American Airlines, one for Jetstar, one for other partner airlines, a separate Emirates table from March 31, 2026, and a round-trip oneworld multi-carrier table. Classic Plus rewards on Qantas flights are priced dynamically. All figures below are from Qantas' own tables, effective August 5, 2025.

Qantas tables effective August 5, 2025. Jetstar economy runs from 5,700 in zone 1. The Emirates table from March 31, 2026 is close to the Qantas table (zone 7 business 125,400, first 205,000). The oneworld multi-carrier table is priced per round trip from 23,000 economy or 42,000 business in zone 1 to 152,200 or 365,800 in zone 10.

One way in economy up to 600 miles, or 5,700 on Jetstar, the cheapest awards in the program.
Business class US West Coast to Japan on JAL
108,000 points
One way on the partner table in zone 6, plus carrier charges. Expensive next to AAdvantage's 60,000, which is why Qantas points are best kept for Qantas flights.
Emirates business New York to Dubai
125,400 points
One way on the Emirates table in zone 7. Qantas is the only major program that prices Emirates from a chart.

A round trip on two or more oneworld airlines other than Qantas, with up to five free stopovers, priced on total distance.
Fees and surcharges
- Taxes, fees and carrier charges are payable in cash on top of the points and are high on most partners: Qantas quotes A$337 on a Sydney to Dubai economy Emirates award and about $400 on Los Angeles to Sydney in business according to points blogs.
- Changing a Classic Flight Reward costs 5,000 points and cancelling 6,000 points per person according to Australian points sites; Qantas' terms name the fees without the amounts on the page we could read. Changes must be made more than 24 hours before each flight.
- No booking fee online; a Reward Assistance Fee applies to phone bookings.
- Points expire after 18 months without earning or redemption activity.
Routing and stopover rules
- Rewards are priced per one-way trip by the distance of the whole trip.
- The oneworld multi-carrier reward allows up to five stopovers, one per city, and must include at least two oneworld airlines other than Qantas and no non-oneworld carriers.
- Mixed-cabin itineraries are priced at the lowest quoted points level for each segment, and Classic Rewards can be combined with paid fares on qantas.com.
Recent and upcoming changes
- August 5, 2025: Emirates and American Airlines moved to the Qantas table, Jetstar became about 11 percent cheaper and other partner awards rose 15 to 20 percent; Emirates first New York to Dubai went from 149,800 to 170,800 points.
- March 31, 2026: Emirates awards moved to a separate table; from February 18, 2026 Emirates first class rewards require Silver status or above.
- December 8, 2026: Points Club retires.

Amex (1:1), Capital One (1:1), Citi (1:1), Marriott (3:1) transfer into Qantas Frequent Flyer, so a specific award can often be funded from bank points rather than a held balance. If your balance is bigger than the awards you will book, see what the points are worth or get a cash quote.
Qantas Frequent Flyer award FAQ
- How many Qantas points for business class from the US to Australia?
- 130,100 points one way in zone 8 (7,001 to 8,400 miles, such as Los Angeles to Sydney) on Qantas' own flights, plus taxes and carrier charges. First class is 195,400.
- Are Qantas points good for partner awards?
- Rarely. The partner table is 10 to 20 percent above the Qantas table and carrier charges apply on most partners, so a JAL business class seat that costs 60,000 AAdvantage miles is 108,000 Qantas points. The points are best used on Qantas, Jetstar and Emirates.
- Can I change or cancel a Qantas Classic Reward?
- Yes, up to 24 hours before each flight. Australian points sites put the cost at 5,000 points to change and 6,000 points to cancel per person, with taxes refunded.
