How to claim missing JAL Mileage Bank miles

Request missing JAL Mileage Bank miles with a post-flight credit request on the JAL website, within six months of the flight date. JAL domestic flights can be claimed from three days after boarding.

Flights flown before you joined JMB can be claimed within the same six months, but bonus miles cannot be added after the fact.

If the name on your boarding pass differs from your JMB registered name, the online request will not work and you have to contact the JAL Mileage Bank Center.

  1. Have your e-ticket itinerary/receipt (or ticket receipt) and your boarding pass ready.
  2. Log in to the JAL website and start a post-flight credit request.
  3. Enter the flight date, flight number, boarding class and booking class. For a codeshare flight, enter the flight number printed on your e-ticket itinerary/receipt, not the operating airline's number.
  4. Select the flight sector and enter the ticket number.
  5. Wait for the request to be processed, then check that the miles appear in your account.

What to have ready

  • E-ticket itinerary/receipt or ticket receipt.
  • Boarding pass.
  • Flight date, flight number, boarding class and booking class. JAL says the booking class is set by the airline based on the fare and may not appear on the receipt; if you cannot tell, ask the airline or travel agency.
  • Ticket number.

Flights taken before you joined

  • JAL accepts post-flight credit requests for flights flown before you joined JMB if you make them within six months of the flight date.
  • Bonus mileage cannot be claimed retroactively for those flights.

Rules that decide a claim

  • Under JMB rule 18(A), mileage accrues only when the member travels on a ticket issued in his or her own name. JAL lists travel under a different name among the cases that earn no mileage.
  • Rule 18(B) requires a member to claim on JMB within six months from the date of boarding.
  • A member may have only one JMB membership number (rule 3).
  • Mileage is not accrued on award tickets, non-revenue tickets, special discounted fares such as infant fares, cargo or charter flights, ineligible tickets or booking classes, flights not boarded for any reason (including delays and cancellations), or flights registered to a frequent flyer program other than JMB.
  • Mileage for a flight goes either to your JMB number or to a partner airline's frequent flyer account, not both.

Fees

  • JAL lists no fee for a post-flight credit request.

If JAL Mileage Bank refuses a claim

  • If the miles do not appear, JAL asks you to check that the booking class and the operating airline are eligible for JMB accrual, then submit your application again through the dedicated application form, uploading your e-ticket itinerary/receipt and boarding pass.
  • If the name on your boarding pass differs from your JMB registered name, contact the JAL Mileage Bank Center, because the request cannot be made on the JAL website.
  • Miles credited to another program cannot be moved: JAL does not permit transferring or combining mileage credits between JMB and other mileage programs (rule 30).
  • Disputes under the JMB rules go to arbitration in a location set by the member's registered address (rule 40).
