How to earn Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points

Virgin Atlantic flights earn distance times a booking-class percentage: Upper Class J, C and D earn 500% for Red members, 650% Silver and 800% Gold; Economy Light (T) earns 25%, 33% and 40%. The earning calculator gives every class.

Enrol at virginatlantic.com. What the program requires and offers:

  • Free. Members under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent.
  • No welcome bonus for joining, and Virgin Points never expire while you remain a member.
  • Household pooling lets family members combine points.

    Virgin Atlantic flights earn 25% to 200% of distance in SkyMiles by fare class, with some codeshare flight numbers excluded. SkyMiles never expire and book Virgin Atlantic awards too.

  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue

    Accepts Virgin Atlantic as a SkyTeam partner by distance and cabin; the chart could not be read.

  • Korean Air SKYPASS

    Lists Virgin Atlantic among its SkyTeam accrual partners.

Which program should I select for Virgin Atlantic flights?

Flying Club's own rates are generous at the front: 500% of distance in Upper Class means London to New York (3,450 miles) earns 17,250 points for a Red member, where Delta pays at most 200%.

In discount economy the gap closes. Economy Light earns 25% in Flying Club and 25% to 50% in SkyMiles, so pick the currency you will use: SkyMiles never expire and price Delta awards without surcharges; Virgin Points price partner awards from a fixed chart but add surcharges on Virgin's own long-haul flights.

Credit to Flying Club when you want tier points for Silver or Gold, which accrue only here. Never expect a reward flight to earn: partner reward flights earn nothing.

Claiming points after the flight

Claim window: 6 months from the flight.

  • Claim in the Flying Club account with the ticket number and flight date; partner airlines refuse claims older than six months.
  • Wait for the flight to post first: Virgin Atlantic flights take days, partners weeks.
  • The terms do not say whether flights before joining count.

Ways to earn points without flying

Virgin Red and shops

Virgin Red rewards, the Shops Away portal and Bicester Village at 1 point per pound all pay points.

Hotel points transfers

Marriott Bonvoy 9,000 to 3,000, Hyatt 5,000 to 3,000, Hilton 10,000 to 1,500 and IHG 10,000 to 2,000 points, from the earn points page.

Store and survey transfers

Tesco Clubcard, Heathrow Rewards and e-Rewards survey points convert into Virgin Points.

High Five

12,000 bonus points after flying Virgin Atlantic in five calendar years.

Rideshare and delivery

No Uber or Lyft ride partnership. Uber Eats orders in the US earn a fixed bonus through the Shops Away portal (up to 241 points on a first desktop order, 120 on later ones).

Buy points

£15 or US$25 per 1,000 points plus a £15 or US$22 transaction fee, up to 200,000 a year, with a 14-day cooling-off period. You need a non-zero balance to buy.

The Virgin Atlantic Reward cards in the UK earn points and an annual companion voucher.

Bank point transfers

Chase (1:1), Amex (1:1), Capital One (1:1), Citi (1:1), Bilt (1:1), Wells Fargo (ratio not stated), Marriott (3:1) transfer into Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. See the transfer partner matrix and how transfers work.

Booking awards with the points
