Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer elite status explained

Singapore Airlines runs two status ladders side by side. KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Elite Gold are earned with Elite miles, which any traveller can collect on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Star Alliance and Virgin Australia flights: 25,000 Elite miles in 12 consecutive months for Silver and 50,000 for Gold.

PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club sit above them and work differently. They are earned with PPS Value, which comes only from money spent on Singapore Airlines Suites, First and Business Class tickets, so a partner flight or an economy ticket never moves you toward PPS Club.

Elite Gold is the tier most US travellers aim for, because it is Star Alliance Gold: lounge access with a guest and extra baggage on United, Lufthansa, ANA and every other Star Alliance airline.

What counts toward status

Elite miles (KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Gold) and PPS Value (PPS Club)

A separate counter that decides your tier. You cannot spend it on flights or rewards.

KrisFlyer miles are the currency you spend on award flights and upgrades. Elite miles are a separate counter that only decides your tier, and PPS Value is a third counter for PPS Club. You cannot redeem Elite miles or PPS Value, and you cannot convert KrisFlyer miles into either.

Bonus miles are where they split most clearly. Elite Silver and Elite Gold members earn 25% extra KrisFlyer miles on Singapore Airlines and Scoot flights (except Economy booking classes Q, N, V, K and G), but that tier bonus never counts as Elite miles. Promotional bonus miles are the same: they add to the balance you spend, not to the status counter.

Worked example: take a 4,000-mile Singapore Airlines flight. In Economy class M, which accrues 75%, it earns 3,000 KrisFlyer miles and 3,000 Elite miles. In Business class J, at 150%, it earns 6,000 of each, and because it is a Business ticket it also earns PPS Value calculated from the Singapore-dollar fare paid, excluding airport taxes. An Elite Silver or Gold member gets a further 25% bonus on actual miles flown, but that lands only in the KrisFlyer balance, never in the Elite miles count.

Award tickets earn neither: a ticket paid entirely with miles earns no KrisFlyer miles, Elite miles or PPS Value. A mix of miles and cash earns all three in proportion to the part paid by card, excluding taxes.

There is no calendar year. You move up as soon as you earn 25,000 or 50,000 Elite miles within any 12 consecutive months, and your Elite membership year then runs 12 months from that upgrade. To renew, you earn the same total again within the membership year; at its end the Elite miles counter resets to zero. PPS Club works the same way on a 12-month membership year, measured in PPS Value.

KrisFlyer Elite Silver

KrisFlyer Elite Gold

Earn 50,000 Elite miles within 12 consecutive months on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Star Alliance or Virgin Australia flights. Up to 10,000 of them can come from non-flight spending.

  • KrisFlyer Gold Lounge at Changi Terminals 2 and 3 and SilverKris Lounges abroad when flying Singapore Airlines, plus any Star Alliance Gold lounge on Star Alliance flights, each with one guest on the same flight.
  • An extra 20 kg or one extra piece of checked baggage, with priority baggage handling.
  • Complimentary Forward Zone Seat selection in Economy on Singapore Airlines.
  • Priority check-in and boarding on Singapore Airlines and across Star Alliance, plus priority on the reservation waitlist and airport standby.
  • Lounges and priority services on Virgin Australia, Garuda Indonesia and SAS as well.
  • No fee for changing your redemption nominees, and the fee waived on the first date or time change per Scoot booking.
  • Complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite, moving up to Platinum Elite after 10 nights within six months, and Shangri-La Circle Jade after one paid night.

PPS Club

Earn 25,000 PPS Value within 12 consecutive months from Singapore Airlines Suites, First and Business Class tickets. Partner and Economy flights do not count, and up to 2,500 PPS Value can come from Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago spending at 1 PPS Value per S$3.

  • The Business Class section of SilverKris Lounges whatever cabin you fly on Singapore Airlines, with one guest on the same flight.
  • Double the standard checked baggage allowance on Singapore Airlines.
  • Priority for redemption waitlists, plus priority check-in, boarding and immigration where offered.
  • KrisFlyer miles do not expire while you hold PPS Club status.
  • Round-the-clock dedicated service, including an Online Call in the SingaporeAir app and the PPS Connect callback line.
  • No US$25 offline service fee and no fee for changing redemption nominees.
  • PPS Rewards, and complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite.

Solitaire PPS Club

Earn 50,000 PPS Value while you are a PPS Club member, again only from Singapore Airlines Suites, First and Business Class tickets.

  • The First Class section of SilverKris Lounges whatever cabin you fly, with one guest on the same flight.
  • Private reception and First Class check-in at select airports.
  • A Solitaire PPS Club Supplementary card for a person you nominate, who shares many (not all) of your privileges.
  • Everything in PPS Club, including double baggage, priority redemption waitlists and non-expiring miles.

How flights earn Elite miles

  • Elite miles come from the flight: the distance flown multiplied by the percentage your booking class earns, on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Star Alliance airlines and Virgin Australia. Partner earning rates are in our KrisFlyer earning guide.
  • On Singapore Airlines the Elite miles chart matches the KrisFlyer miles chart: Suites and First (A, F) 200%; Business Z, C and J 150% and D and U 125%; Premium Economy S and T 125% and R, L and P 100%; Economy B, E and Y 100%, M, H and W 75%, and Q, N, V, K and G 50%. A cheap Economy fare therefore earns half the Elite miles of a full-fare one on the same flight.
  • Tier bonuses, card bonuses and promotional bonus miles never count as Elite miles. Only the base flight miles do.
  • Since 1 September 2025 ground spending also counts, within limits: 1 Elite mile per S$1 on Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago, capped at 5,000 Elite miles toward Elite Silver and 10,000 toward Elite Gold in a rolling 12-month period. That is 20% of each threshold, so at least 80% still has to come from flying.
  • PPS Value is calculated from the Singapore-dollar amount you pay for Suites, First or Business Class tickets on Singapore Airlines, excluding airport taxes. Star Alliance premium cabins earn Elite miles but no PPS Value.

How many miles each tier earns

  • Base members earn KrisFlyer miles by distance and booking class. Elite Silver and Elite Gold earn 25% more on the actual miles flown with Singapore Airlines and Scoot, except in Economy classes Q, N, V, K and G. Singapore Airlines does not extend the tier bonus to Star Alliance partner flights.
  • KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards add a separate bonus for heavy flyers of any tier: 25% bonus miles per segment once you pass 20,000 Elite miles in a calendar year, 50% from 30,000 and double miles from 60,000. Elite miles from Star Alliance and other partner flights do not count toward milestones.
  • Award tickets earn no KrisFlyer miles, Elite miles or PPS Value. Mixed miles-and-cash tickets earn on the cash portion only, excluding taxes.

Upgrades for Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer elites

  • KrisFlyer has no complimentary upgrades for any tier. Upgrades are paid for with miles, bought for cash through mySQupgrade, or earned as Milestone Rewards.
  • Upgrade awards with miles need a paid Singapore Airlines fare in an eligible class: Economy Y, B, E, M, H or W, Premium Economy S, T, P or L, or Business Z, C, J or U. Economy Lite, codeshares, award tickets and industry or agency discount fares are excluded. One-way Saver upgrades from Economy Standard to Business run from 15,000 miles on short routes to 93,500 miles from Singapore to the US East Coast (Advantage 33,000 to 125,500), with round trips double; see the KrisFlyer award chart.
  • Upgrade awards are capacity-controlled and can be waitlisted. Elite Silver and Elite Gold get priority on reservation waitlists and airport standby, and PPS Club members get priority on redemption waitlists, which is where status helps most.
  • Milestone Rewards give upgrade vouchers by volume rather than tier: 75,000 Elite miles in a calendar year earns a short-haul Advance Upgrade and 100,000 earns an Economy to Premium Economy upgrade, both subject to availability.
  • KrisFlyer miles can also upgrade Star Alliance flights booked in eligible classes, mostly Y and B, with no waitlist offered.

Credit cards that help with Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer status

  • Everyday spending counts toward status only through its own capped non-flight Elite miles (Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago, up to 5,000 toward Elite Silver and 10,000 toward Elite Gold in a rolling 12 months), so spending can help you over the line but cannot earn status on its own.
  • The fast track Singapore Airlines publishes is on a Singapore-issued card: the American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend card confers Elite Gold after S$15,000 of Singapore Airlines spend.
  • Bank points transferred into KrisFlyer arrive as redeemable KrisFlyer miles. The non-flight sources of Elite miles Singapore Airlines lists are Kris+, KrisShop and Pelago, so do not count on transfers for status; see transfer partners.

Other ways to get Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer status

Marriott Bonvoy partnership

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador Elite members can register for complimentary KrisFlyer Elite Silver, once per person. It runs the other way too: KrisFlyer elites and PPS Club members get Marriott Silver or Gold Elite.

No status match or challenge

Singapore Airlines does not publish a status match or challenge for elites of other airlines. Beyond the Marriott route, the only shortcuts are co-brand cards and the capped non-flight Elite miles.

Solitaire PPS Club Life

There is no lifetime Elite Silver or Elite Gold. Solitaire PPS Club Life is a legacy category whose members no longer need to requalify; Singapore Airlines does not publish a way to earn it today.

Solitaire Supplementary card

Status cannot be gifted or transferred, and the terms prohibit pooling miles or status credits. The single exception is the Solitaire PPS Club Supplementary card, which a Solitaire member gives to one nominee.

Keeping Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer status

  • Elite Silver and Elite Gold renew only if you earn 25,000 or 50,000 Elite miles again within your membership year. Singapore Airlines publishes no soft landing for these tiers, and surplus Elite miles do not roll over because the counter resets to zero.
  • PPS Club does have a cushion. A member who ends the year below 25,000 PPS Value (including any Reserve Value) drops to KrisFlyer Elite Gold rather than to the base tier, and first-year PPS Club members drop to Elite Gold or Elite Silver. Solitaire PPS Club requires 50,000 PPS Value a year.
  • KrisFlyer miles expire three years after they are earned for everyone except PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club members, whose miles last while they keep that status. Elite Silver and Gold can pay to extend expiring miles for a year, against six months for base members. See do airline miles expire.

Is KrisFlyer Elite Gold the same as Star Alliance Gold?
Yes. Elite Gold carries Star Alliance Gold, so you get Star Alliance Gold lounges with one guest, extra baggage and priority services on any Star Alliance airline. Elite Silver is Star Alliance Silver, which has no lounge access.
Can I earn KrisFlyer Elite status flying United?
Yes. Elite miles from Star Alliance flights, including United, count toward Elite Silver and Elite Gold. They do not count toward PPS Club, which only counts Singapore Airlines premium-cabin spend, or toward Milestone Rewards.
What is the difference between KrisFlyer Elite Gold and PPS Club?
Elite Gold is earned with Elite miles on any eligible flight. PPS Club is earned with 25,000 PPS Value from Singapore Airlines Suites, First and Business Class tickets, and adds SilverKris Business Class lounges regardless of cabin, double baggage, priority redemption waitlists and miles that do not expire.
