ANA Mileage Club elite status explained

ANA Mileage Club status is earned with Premium Points collected on ANA Group and Star Alliance flights from January to December: 30,000 for Bronze, 50,000 for Platinum and 100,000 for Diamond, with at least half of each total on ANA Group flights. The status then runs for one year from April 1, and you usually get it early through Advance Service as soon as you cross the threshold.

Bronze is Star Alliance Silver, while Platinum and Diamond are Star Alliance Gold. Platinum and Diamond members living in Japan can also apply for the Super Flyers Card, a Japan-issued credit card that keeps lounge access for as long as the card is held, although ANA is splitting it into SFC PLUS and SFC LITE from April 2028.

Premium Points are separate from the redeemable ANA miles you spend on awards: miles build a balance, Premium Points only decide your tier and reset every year.

What counts toward status

A separate counter that decides your tier. You cannot spend it on flights or rewards.

ANA miles are the currency you spend on award tickets, upgrade awards and lounge entry. A flight earns basic sector mileage times the booking class accrual rate, such as 150% in F, A and J, 125% in C, D and Z, 100% in Y, B and M and 30% in L and K economy. Award tickets earn no miles.

Premium Points count only toward status. ANA calculates them as basic sector mileage times the accrual rate times a route ratio (2 on Japan domestic flights, 1.5 on ANA Group flights between Japan and Asia, Oceania or Vladivostok, 1 elsewhere), plus Boarding Points: 400 on ANA international fares in first, business, premium economy and Y, B or M economy, and 0 on discounted economy. Premium Points cannot be spent, transferred or combined with miles, and award flights earn none.

Worked example: a one-way ANA flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles, a 5,458-mile sector, on a Y economy fare (100% accrual) earns 5,458 redeemable miles and 5,858 Premium Points (5,458 x 1 + 400 Boarding Points). The same seat on a discounted L fare earns only 30% of the distance in both currencies and no Boarding Points.

Japan domestic flying earns Premium Points fastest. Tokyo to Okinawa is 984 miles, so an Economy Flex fare at 100% earns 984 miles but 2,368 Premium Points (984 x 2 + 400 Boarding Points). A Diamond on either flight also collects a Flight Bonus in miles, never in Premium Points. See the ANA award chart for what the miles buy.

Premium Points are counted from January 1 to December 31 and reset each year. Status earned in a calendar year starts on April 1 of the next year and lasts one year, so points earned in 2026 give status from April 1, 2027 to March 31, 2028. Members who qualify earlier get Premium Member Advance Service about two to three days after meeting the conditions (from mid-April for points earned January to March), which lasts until the full status begins.

Benefits of each ANA Mileage Club tier

Bronze Service

Earn 30,000 Premium Points from January to December, at least 15,000 of them on ANA Group flights. ANA Gold Card and ANA Card Premium holders need only the 30,000 total, with no ANA Group minimum. Members with a Japan-issued ANA Card can instead qualify with 15,000 Premium Points, four or more Life Solution Services and ¥3,000,000 in ANA Card and ANA Pay payments.

Platinum Service

Earn 50,000 Premium Points from January to December, at least 25,000 of them on ANA Group flights. Japan-issued ANA Card holders can also qualify with 30,000 Premium Points, seven or more Life Solution Services and ¥4,000,000 in ANA Card and ANA Pay payments.

Diamond Service

Earn 100,000 Premium Points from January to December, at least 50,000 of them on ANA Group flights. Japan-issued ANA Card holders can also qualify with 50,000 Premium Points, seven or more Life Solution Services and ¥5,000,000 in ANA Card and ANA Pay payments.

How flights earn PP

  • Premium Points come only from flights: ANA, ANA Wings and AirJapan, the Star Alliance member airlines and Star Alliance Connecting Partner Juneyao Airlines. Non-Star Alliance codeshare partners do not earn Premium Points, except Japan domestic flights sold under an ANA flight number.
  • Star Alliance partner flights earn Premium Points at the route ratio of 1 plus 400 Boarding Points when the fare accrues 100% or more of the distance, and no Boarding Points below that. Because every tier needs half its points on ANA Group flights, a member flying mostly on United still needs 25,000 ANA Group Premium Points for Platinum.
  • On Japan domestic flights from May 19, 2026, Boarding Points are 400 on Flex, Business and premium fares, 200 on Standard Economy, 100 on Simple Economy and 0 on sale, youth, senior and tour fares.
  • A long-haul round trip in business moves the needle fast: Tokyo to Los Angeles and back on a J fare (150%) earns about 17,174 Premium Points (8,187 plus 400 each way), so three such trips reach Platinum.

How many miles each tier earns

  • Every tier earns the base flight miles for the fare, then a Flight Bonus calculated as basic sector mileage x fare accrual rate x the bonus rate. Without an ANA Card the bonus is 40% for Bronze, 90% for Platinum and 115% for Diamond in the first year of status, rising to 50%, 100% and 125% from the second consecutive year.
  • ANA Card and Super Flyers Card holders get 5 points more at each tier: 45% or 55% for Bronze, 95% or 105% for Platinum and 120% or 130% for Diamond. Super Flyers members earn a Flight Bonus of 35%, 40% or 50% depending on whether they hold the regular, Gold or Premium Super Flyers card.
  • The Flight Bonus applies to flights operated by ANA Group, United Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian only; other Star Alliance flights and ANA codeshares on other airlines earn base miles only. Award tickets earn no miles and no Premium Points.

Upgrades for ANA Mileage Club elites

  • ANA gives no automatic complimentary upgrades. Through March 31, 2027 elites receive Upgrade Points each April based on Premium Points earned on ANA Group flights (for example 20 points for 40,000 to 79,999, 40 for 80,000 to 119,999 and 100 for 250,000 or more, plus 4 more for Super Flyers Card holders), usable for upgrade seat awards, lounge entry or ANA SKY COINS. ANA is ending Upgrade Points for Premium Members and Super Flyers after FY2026.
  • Upgrades now move to miles. International upgrade awards on ANA flights cost, one way, 20,000 miles from economy to premium economy, 28,000 miles to business and 45,000 miles from business to first on sectors of 5,501 miles or more, such as Tokyo to New York, with the same price all year. Eligible fares include Y, B, M, U, H and Q economy for premium economy, and G, E, Y, B, M and U for business.
  • Japan domestic upgrade awards paid with miles are available on flights from May 19, 2026, requested from 27 days to 20 minutes before departure. International requests open 355 days out and close 24 hours before departure.
  • Status helps with availability: Premium Members get prioritized reservations and waitlisting for upgrades on ANA Group international flights when they use their own miles. Upgrade awards cannot be used on Star Alliance partner flights.

Credit cards that help with ANA Mileage Club status

  • No US-issued card earns Premium Points or gives ANA status. ANA Cards are issued in Japan, and the Super Flyers Card requires a Japanese address and a Japanese bank account.
  • ANA Cards still matter for status in Japan. ANA Gold Card and ANA Card Premium holders qualify for Bronze with 30,000 Premium Points from any eligible airline, any ANA Card adds 5 points to the Flight Bonus, and Japan-issued ANA Card holders can use the Life Solution Services route with card and ANA Pay spending.
  • ANA Cards also add their own flight bonus of 10% for standard cards, 25% for Gold cards and 50% for Premium cards, and renewal bonuses of 1,000, 2,000 or 10,000 miles. Annual fees start at ¥2,200 (the first year free) for the standard card and reach ¥198,000 for the ANA Diners Premium Card.

Other ways to get ANA Mileage Club status

Super Flyers Card, and the 2028 SFC PLUS and SFC LITE split

Platinum and Diamond members (including during Advance Service) and 1 million Lifetime Mile members can apply for a Super Flyers credit card if they live in Japan or have a Japanese address and bank account. Primary annual fees run from ¥11,275 to ¥198,000, and the card keeps ANA LOUNGE and Star Alliance lounge access, with one guest, for as long as it is held. From April 1, 2028 all SFC holders, including existing ones, will be sorted each year by spending on the card and its family cards: ¥3 million or more gives SFC PLUS with ANA LOUNGE access, Star Alliance Gold and 5,000 miles a year, while less gives SFC LITE with no ANA LOUNGE access and Star Alliance Silver. Million Miler Program (lifetime)

At 1 million Lifetime Miles on ANA Group flights, your miles stop expiring and you can apply for the Super Flyers Card without current status, and ANA says those members will receive SFC PLUS from 2028 whatever they spend. At 2 million Lifetime Miles you get permanent ANA SUITE LOUNGE access through an ANA LOUNGE Access Card.

Life Solution Services (Japan residents)

Members holding a Japan-issued ANA Card can reach Bronze, Platinum or Diamond with fewer Premium Points (15,000, 30,000 or 50,000) by also using enough ANA Life Solution Services and spending ¥3 million to ¥5 million a year with the ANA Card and ANA Pay. Advance Service does not apply on this route.

Status match, challenge or purchase

ANA publishes no status match or challenge for elites of other airlines, and Premium Points cannot be bought or transferred.

Hotel partnership

ANA does not give status from a hotel program. Its elites get a discount at IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan: 10% for Diamond and 5% for Platinum.

Keeping ANA Mileage Club status

  • Premium Points do not roll over. You must requalify each calendar year, and ANA's status pages describe no soft landing, so a shortfall means the status ends on March 31 unless you earned a lower tier's threshold.
  • Diamond miles do not expire while you hold the tier; once you drop below Diamond, the normal 36-month expiry applies again unless you have 1 million Lifetime Miles.
  • Super Flyers Card status needs no requalifying today, but from April 2028 its level is redetermined every year by card spending, although ANA says membership itself is not revoked when spending falls under ¥3 million.

How many Premium Points do I need for ANA Diamond?
You need 100,000 Premium Points between January and December, with at least 50,000 earned on ANA Group flights. Status earned in 2026 runs from April 1, 2027 to March 31, 2028, with Advance Service in between.
What Star Alliance status does ANA Platinum give?
Platinum and Diamond are Star Alliance Gold, which brings Star Alliance lounges, priority check-in and extra baggage on member airlines. Bronze is Star Alliance Silver.
Do United flights count toward ANA status?
Yes. United and every other Star Alliance member earn Premium Points, including 400 Boarding Points on fares that earn 100% or more. You still need half of each tier's total on ANA Group flights, and United is one of the few partners where elites also get the Flight Bonus in miles.
Can I get the ANA Super Flyers Card if I live in the US?
Not unless you have a Japanese address and a Japanese bank account. ANA requires both, sends cards only to Japanese addresses, and also requires Platinum or Diamond status or 1 million Lifetime Miles.
Is ANA changing the Super Flyers Card?
Yes. From April 2028 SFC holders who spend ¥3 million or more a year on the card get SFC PLUS with ANA LOUNGE access and Star Alliance Gold, while others get SFC LITE with Star Alliance Silver and no ANA LOUNGE access. Spending counts from December 16, 2026, and 1 million Lifetime Miles members get SFC PLUS regardless.
What happens to ANA Upgrade Points?
ANA is ending Upgrade Points for Premium Members and Super Flyers after FY2026, and points issued for FY2026 can be used until March 31, 2027. Upgrades and lounge entry move to miles, and Diamonds for FY2027 receive 50,000 time-limited miles around April 2027.
Do ANA award tickets earn Premium Points?
No. Award tickets earn neither miles nor Premium Points, so status comes only from paid tickets on ANA Group and Star Alliance flights.
