How to earn Air Canada Aeroplan points

Since 1 January 2026 Air Canada flights earn 1 point per dollar of base fare and carrier surcharges for members without status, rising to 2 per dollar at 25K and 6 at Super Elite, on every fare brand including Basic. Taxes, bags and seat fees earn nothing.

Partner flights on an Air Canada ticket earn on base dollars spent. On a ticket issued by the partner, earning is by distance and fare class from Aeroplan's partner charts.

How to join Air Canada Aeroplan

Enrol at aircanada.com. What the program requires and offers:

  • Membership is free. Minors join through a parent or guardian, and Family Sharing leads must be 18 or over.
  • No residency restriction is stated; the account works for members outside Canada.
  • No standing welcome bonus; the New Card Bonus applies to the co-brand cards.

Where else Air Canada flights can be credited

  • Lufthansa Miles & More

    Ticket price times 4 for base members and times 6 with status; Air Canada is in Lufthansa's own factor group, so this pays four times Aeroplan's base rate. The miles expire after 36 months without status or a card.

  • United MileagePlus

    By distance and fare class as a Star Alliance partner; United's chart could not be read. United miles never expire.

  • Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles

    Turkish lists Air Canada as an accrual partner. Its charts pay 50% to 150% of distance by class on other Star Alliance carriers, so expect similar.

Which program should I select for Air Canada flights?

Aeroplan's 1 point per dollar is the lowest base rate of any program here, so a cheap Air Canada flight earns more almost anywhere else. A C$400 Toronto to Vancouver economy fare earns 400 Aeroplan points but about 2,100 Turkish miles in a 100% fare class.

Credit to Aeroplan when you hold or want Air Canada status, since Status Qualifying Miles count only there, or when you plan to redeem Aeroplan's partner chart, which has no surcharges on Air Canada flights.

Basic fares earn in Aeroplan, and most partners exclude them, so on the cheapest fare class Aeroplan may be the only program that pays anything.

Claiming points after the flight

Claim window: Not stated; keep passes 6 months.

  • Submit the missing transactions form at least 14 days after the whole trip; credit can take up to 2 months.
  • Aeroplan does not state a claim deadline but asks members to keep boarding passes for 6 months after travel.
  • Flights before enrolment do not earn: the terms exclude purchases made before joining.

Ways to earn points without flying

Uber and Uber Eats

1 point per dollar on airport rides and on premium rides, 2 per dollar on premium airport rides, 1 per dollar on Uber Eats restaurant orders of C$40 or more and on grocery and retail orders with no minimum, plus 1,000 bonus points each for the first ride and first order, in Canada and the US, from Air Canada's Uber page. Points can also be redeemed for Uber Cash from 3,000.

Starbucks

100 points for every C$75 or more loaded to a linked Starbucks card.

LCBO, fuel and rent

LCBO pays 1 point per C$4, Journie Rewards 1 point per 3 litres of fuel, and Chexy pays points on rent paid by card.

Aeroplan eStore

Points at 200 or more online brands, with elite members earning 2 extra points per dollar, through the eStore.

Hotels and cars

Hotel bookings and Avis and Budget rentals earn points, with an extra 3 points per dollar for elite members, from the hotel and car page.

Credit cards

TD, CIBC and American Express in Canada and Chase in the US issue Aeroplan cards, listed on the credit cards page.

Bank point transfers

Chase (1:1), Amex (1:1), Capital One (1:1), Bilt (1:1), Marriott (3:1) transfer into Air Canada Aeroplan. See the transfer partner matrix and how transfers work.

Booking window: Not confirmed; book at least 2 hours before departure. Change fee: Standard and Lowest fares C$75 online or C$100 by phone; Flex, Latitude and Flexible free. Do Aeroplan points expire?
Yes, after 18 consecutive months with no earning or redemption. Any activity, including a linked Uber ride, resets the clock.
Does an Air Canada Basic fare earn Aeroplan points?
Yes. Since January 2026 every Air Canada fare brand including Basic earns 1 point per dollar for members without status.
Can I credit a United or Lufthansa flight to Aeroplan?
Yes, any Star Alliance flight. On a ticket bought from Air Canada it earns per dollar; on a ticket bought from United or Lufthansa it earns by distance and fare class from the partner chart.
Does Aeroplan pay points on Uber?
Yes, 1 point per dollar on rides and on Uber Eats orders of C$40 or more once the Uber and Aeroplan accounts are linked.
