How to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points

Qantas and Jetstar flights earn points by route and booking class from Qantas's earning tables, with an earn category from Discount Economy to First set by the fare. Classic Flight Reward tickets earn no points or status credits.

Partner flights earn from route-based partner tables. Emirates flights need a QF or EK flight number and post within 15 days.

How to join Qantas Frequent Flyer

Enrol at qantas.com. What the program requires and offers:

  • A joining fee may apply, and Qantas does not publish the amount before you start. If you do pay one, the terms let you cancel within two weeks of receiving your membership number and have it refunded (clause 5.5). Joining through the Uber app is free.
  • Membership is open only to individuals; under-18s need a parent or guardian's consent.
  • No welcome bonus for joining.

  • Alaska Atmos Rewards

    25% to 150% of distance by booking class.

    Cathay, JAL and Qatar credit Qantas flights by their own charts.

Which program should I select for Qantas flights?

Australians who fly Qantas regularly should credit to Qantas: status credits count only here, and the ground partners (Woolworths, BP, Uber) keep the balance active.

For a one-off Qantas long-haul in business, Emirates Skywards at 125% of distance or a oneworld program that books Qantas awards can pay more than Qantas's route table. Check the booking class, since P, U, Z and X earn nothing at Emirates.

Qantas points expire after 18 months without activity and the joining fee is a sunk cost, so a visitor who flies Qantas once is better off in AAdvantage or Alaska.

Claiming points after the flight

Claim window: 12 months; 6 months for Qatar flights.

  • Claim in My Account with the e-ticket or boarding pass once 14 days have passed. Qantas flights are reviewed within 24 hours, partners within 14 days.
  • Flights up to 30 days before joining can be claimed.
  • Qatar Airways flights must be claimed within six months.

Ways to earn points without flying

Uber and Uber Eats

1 point per A$2 on rides to or from 22 or more Australian airports and 1 per A$1 on Uber Reserve airport rides; Uber One members also earn on Comfort and Black rides anywhere and on Uber Eats orders over A$20, with 1,000 bonus points on the first trip after linking, from the Qantas Uber page.

Everyday Rewards and BP

Woolworths Everyday Rewards points convert at 2,000 to 1,000 Qantas Points, and BP pays 2 points per litre of Ultimate fuel, 1 on other fuel and 1 per dollar in store.

Qantas Wellbeing app

Up to 1,000 points in the first 28 days and ongoing points for sleep and activity challenges, for members 13 and over.

Hotels, Airbnb and wine

Qantas Hotels and Holidays pay 3 points per dollar, Airbnb 1 per dollar, Qantas Wine 1 per dollar, and HelloFresh and Red Energy pay bonuses, from the ways to earn page.

Cards and Qantas Pay

Credit cards earn up to 2 points per dollar and the Qantas Pay travel card up to 2 per dollar on foreign spend; the earn points hub lists banking, insurance and utility partners.

Top-up Points

1,000 to 150,000 points per purchase, four times in 12 months; the price shows at checkout.

Bank point transfers

Amex (1:1), Capital One (1:1), Citi (1:1), Marriott (3:1) transfer into Qantas Frequent Flyer. See the transfer partner matrix and how transfers work.

Booking awards with the points

Booking window: 353 days to 2 hours (domestic) or 4 hours (international) before departure. Change fee: Change Fee per passenger once ticketed; amount not confirmed.
