Alaska Atmos Rewards elite status explained

Atmos Rewards, the combined Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines program that replaced Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles, has four status tiers: Atmos Silver at 20,000 status points, Gold at 40,000, Platinum at 80,000 and Titanium at 135,000, earned between January 1 and December 31.

Status points come from flying Alaska, Hawaiian and partner airlines, including award flights, and in 2026 also from Atmos credit card spend, Lyft, Alaska and Hawaiian Vacations, cruises, dining, shopping and grocery partners. The old tier names MVP, MVP Gold, Gold 75K and Gold 100K are gone.

Milestone rewards start at 10,000 status points, halfway to Silver, so members earn perks before they reach a tier.

What counts toward status

A separate counter that decides your tier. You cannot spend it on flights or rewards.

Atmos Rewards keeps two balances. Points are the redeemable currency, spent on award flights from 4,500 points one-way, and they do not expire. Status points cannot be spent; they only count toward your tier and milestone rewards for the calendar year.

The two are earned at different rates outside flying. Alaska's own example: a member who puts US$7,500 of everyday purchases on the Atmos Rewards Ascent Visa Signature card earns 7,500 redeemable points but 2,500 status points, because the Ascent card earns 1 status point per US$3. The Summit Visa Infinite card earns 1 status point per US$2, so US$25,000 of spending adds 12,500 status points plus a 10,000 status point anniversary bonus.

Worked example of one trip: a member buys a US$600 Alaska ticket with the Ascent card. The purchase earns 1,800 redeemable points at the card's 3 points per US$1 on Alaska purchases, plus 200 status points from the card at 1 per US$3. The flight itself then earns points and status points on top, by distance flown under the current rules (100% of miles flown on most economy fares, up to 200% on full-fare First Class), with price paid (5 per US$1) and segments (500 per flight) announced as alternative choices.

Award travel is the other big difference: Alaska's newsroom lists award travel among the ways to earn status points, so a flight you redeem points for still moves you toward Silver, Gold, Platinum or Titanium.

Status points are counted from January 1 to December 31. Status earned in one year is used the following year, and from 2026 Alaska says members can keep enjoying their status benefits through January 31 of the year after that, a one-month grace period.

Atmos Silver

Earn 20,000 status points between January 1 and December 31 from flights (including award flights), Atmos credit cards and non-air partners, or keep a matched Silver by earning 5,000 base points on Alaska or Hawaiian flights within 90 days.

  • Complimentary First Class and Premium Class upgrades on Alaska depending on fare, with free Premium Class seats from 48 hours before departure.
  • Complimentary space-available upgrades on Hawaiian Airlines flights within North America for the member and a companion.

Atmos Gold

Earn 40,000 status points between January 1 and December 31, or keep a matched Gold by earning 10,000 base points on Alaska or Hawaiian flights within 90 days.

  • Alaska Lounge and oneworld business class lounge access when flying outside the US, Canada and Mexico.
  • Additional free checked bags beyond Silver's one, plus priority bag handling and higher upgrade priority. Alaska's newsroom does not state the exact bag count per tier.
  • Free Premium Class seats on Alaska from 72 hours before departure, plus complimentary upgrades depending on fare.
  • Free Main Cabin Extra on American at booking, and complimentary American upgrades that can include one companion on the same booking.
  • oneworld Sapphire: priority boarding, extra baggage allowance and priority check-in on oneworld airlines.
  • Complimentary upgrades on Hawaiian Airlines within North America for the member and a companion.

Atmos Platinum

Earn 80,000 status points between January 1 and December 31, or keep a matched Platinum by earning 20,000 base points on Alaska or Hawaiian flights within 90 days.

Atmos Titanium

Earn 135,000 status points between January 1 and December 31. Alaska's status match does not offer Titanium.

How flights earn status points

  • Flights on Alaska and Hawaiian earn status points as a percentage of miles flown set by fare class, and the class bonus counts toward status as well as redeemable points. First Class J earns 200%, C 175% and D or I 150%; in economy, Y or B earns 150%, H or K 125% and M, L, V, S, N, Q, O and G 100%.
  • Saver fares (X class) earn 30% of miles flown for travel through July 31, 2026 or trips booked before June 11, 2026. Saver fares booked on or after June 11, 2026 and flown on or after August 1, 2026 earn no points and no status points.
  • Alaska has announced that later in 2026 members will be able to choose between distance, price paid (5 points per US$1 on flights and premium cabin upgrades) and segments (a flat 500 points per flight), which favours short, expensive hops or cheap long flights depending on the option you pick.
  • Partner flights booked through Alaska earn 350% of miles flown in international First, 250% in international Business, 150% in domestic First or premium economy and 100% in economy. The same partner flights booked on the partner's own site earn less: 150% in First, 125% in Business, 100% in premium economy, 50% in economy and 25% in discount economy.
  • Award flights earn status points as well. The one published partner exception is STARLUX: flights booked through STARLUX's own site earn points but no status points.
  • Non-flight earning is large. Lyft earns 1 status point per US$1 of base fare, Alaska and Hawaiian Vacations hotel stays 1 per US$1, Alaska Hawaiian Cruises 1 per US$1, CLEAR enrollment 500 and GCI internet and phone plans 1 per US$3. Alaska's examples show US$960 of Atmos Rewards Dining earning 1,600 status points, 9,000 Foodland Maika'i points converting to 3,000 and 6,000 Safeway U points to 2,000.
  • Alaska's own example of a member who never flies: US$25,000 of Summit card spend (12,500 status points), the 10,000 anniversary bonus, US$6,000 of Alaska Vacations hotels (6,000), US$800 of Lyft (800), shopping (1,700) and CLEAR (500) add up to 31,500 status points, enough for Atmos Silver.

How many miles each tier earns

  • On Alaska and Hawaiian flights members currently earn redeemable points by distance flown, with a minimum of 500 per Hawaiian Neighbor Island flight. The price-paid option announced for later in 2026 earns 5 points per US$1 and the segment option 500 points per flight.
  • Status members earn bonus points on the base points from each flight, and the bonus grows with tier. The percentages are published only on Alaska's status benefits page, which could not be read for this guide. Check Alaska's status page for the current figures.
  • Huaka'i by Hawaiian members get a 50% bonus on points and status points for Neighbor Island travel from 2026. Award flights count toward status but Alaska's pages do not describe them earning redeemable points.

Upgrades for Alaska Atmos Rewards elites

  • Complimentary upgrades on Alaska depend on tier and fare: Alaska either upgrades you to Premium Class straight away or adds you to the waitlist, clearing by status level and fare paid. Premium Class seats are free at booking for Platinum and Titanium, from 72 hours before departure for Gold and 48 hours for Silver. Saver fares are excluded from First Class upgrades.
  • Atmos Titanium members and a companion get complimentary day-of-departure upgrades into global Business Class on long-haul flights, with no points or certificate needed. All status holders and a companion can also receive complimentary upgrades on Hawaiian Airlines flights within North America.
  • On American Airlines, Atmos elites get complimentary space-available upgrades within the US, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America, clearing up to 72 hours out by tier, and Gold and above can include one companion. Basic Economy tickets bought from May 18, 2026 are excluded.
  • Upgrades cannot be bought with points. Anyone can buy a Premium Class seat for cash from US$15 at booking, in Manage trip, at online check-in or at the gate; paid Premium Class upgrades are normally non-refundable unless Alaska changes your flight or you cancel within 24 hours.

Credit cards that help with Alaska Atmos Rewards status

  • The Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite from Bank of America (US$395 a year) earns 1 status point for every US$2 spent plus 10,000 status points on each card anniversary. It also waives up to US$25 per person in partner award booking fees and up to US$50 in same-day change fees, includes 8 Alaska Lounge passes a year and a free checked bag for the cardholder and up to 6 guests.
  • The Atmos Rewards Ascent Visa Signature (US$95 a year) earns 1 status point per US$3 spent with no cap. It earns 3 redeemable points per US$1 on Alaska and Hawaiian purchases and gives a free checked bag and preferred boarding for the cardholder and up to 6 guests, plus a US$99 Companion Fare after US$6,000 of annual spend.
  • The Atmos Rewards Visa Signature Business card (US$70 per company account) earns 3 points per US$1 on Alaska and Hawaiian, a free checked bag and a yearly US$99 Companion Fare. Bank of America's page does not state a status point earn rate for it.
  • Because card status points have no cap, a Summit cardholder reaches Silver on US$20,000 of spend after the first anniversary bonus posts.

Other ways to get Alaska Atmos Rewards status

Million Miler lifetime status

Members with one million lifetime flight miles on Alaska flights are guaranteed Atmos Gold every year. A Million Miler can also share the higher of their lifetime or annual status for life with one household member who lives at the same address and has their own Atmos Rewards account; nominations take up to six weeks to process.

Status match

US and Canadian residents with flown status at Aeromexico, Air Canada, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest or United (not American) can match once per lifetime to Silver, Gold or Platinum for 90 days. Keep it by earning 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000 base points on Alaska or Hawaiian flights in that window; matches approved by June 30 run to year end and later ones through the following December 31. Allow up to 4 weeks for approval.

Milestone rewards

Milestones start at 10,000 status points with choices such as free pre-order food, bonus points, complimentary status for a trip and car rental upgrades. Higher milestones include Alaska Lounge day passes (at 55,000 and 95,000 status points) and a Lounge+ membership (at 125,000).

Everyday spending partners

Lyft, dining, shopping, Foodland, Safeway, cruises, Alaska and Hawaiian Vacations and GCI all earn status points, so Silver is reachable without a flight. Bought points do not count.

Avis status

Avis will match Atmos status to Avis Preferred Plus or President's Club, a useful extra rather than a route to airline status.

Keeping Alaska Atmos Rewards status

  • Status is re-earned from zero each January 1. Alaska's pages reviewed for this guide do not describe a soft landing or an automatic rollover of surplus status points, so plan on your tier following what you earn in the calendar year.
  • Million Milers never drop below Atmos Gold, whatever they earn in a year.
  • The January 31 grace period gives an extra month after the status year ends before a lower tier takes effect.
  • Redeemable points never expire for any member, so losing status never costs you your balance.

Alaska Atmos Rewards status: FAQ

How many status points do I need for Atmos Gold?
Atmos Gold takes 40,000 status points in a calendar year. Silver takes 20,000, Platinum 80,000 and Titanium 135,000. Gold maps to oneworld Sapphire, which opens business class lounges on international oneworld trips.
What happened to Alaska MVP, MVP Gold and 75K?
They were renamed when Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles became Atmos Rewards. The tiers are now Atmos Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium, with thresholds of 20,000, 40,000, 80,000 and 135,000 status points.
Do award flights earn Atmos status points?
Yes. Alaska lists award travel among the ways to earn status points, alongside partner airlines and non-air partners. That is unusual among US programs, where award tickets normally earn nothing toward status.
Can I earn Atmos status with a credit card?
Yes, with no cap. The Summit Visa Infinite earns 1 status point per US$2 plus 10,000 each anniversary, and the Ascent Visa Signature 1 per US$3. Alaska's own example reaches Silver with no flights, mainly on Summit card spend.
Does Atmos Rewards status get lounge access?
Only on international trips. Atmos Gold, Platinum and Titanium get Alaska Lounges and oneworld lounges when flying outside the US, Canada and Mexico; domestic access needs a membership, a day pass, First Class on a flight of 2,000 miles or more, or a milestone reward.
Can I match my Delta or United status to Alaska?
Yes, once per lifetime, if you live in the US or Canada and hold flown status with Delta, United, Air Canada, Aeromexico, Frontier, JetBlue or Southwest. You get up to Platinum for 90 days and keep it by earning 5,000 to 20,000 base points on Alaska or Hawaiian flights.
Does Alaska Atmos Rewards have lifetime status?
Yes, through Million Miler. Fly one million miles on Alaska flights and you are guaranteed Atmos Gold each year for life, and you can share that status with one household member.
When does Atmos status expire?
Status earned in a calendar year is valid for the next year, and from 2026 Alaska extends benefits through January 31 of the year after. Your redeemable points never expire.
