Fill in the online sign-up form on turkishairlines.com (or in the Turkish Airlines app); membership starts with the first activity logged after you complete the application and accept the terms. You start at the Classic tier and earn 1,000 Welcome Miles after your first Turkish Airlines or Star Alliance flight.
Does it cost anything to join Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles?
No. Miles&Smiles enrolment is free; Turkish Airlines' own Youth Club page spells out that members "must first be enrolled in Miles&Smiles at no cost" before adding the youth benefits on top.

Is there a minimum age to join Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, and can children have their own account?
Miles&Smiles is open to individuals aged 2 and over, so children can hold their own account (younger children are enrolled in the High Five Kids Club, which cannot receive transferred Miles). Legal entities, groups and joint applications are not permitted.
Where do I find my Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles membership number?
Since January 2026 the Turkish Airlines website and app have a dedicated option for retrieving your membership number without logging in; once signed in it also appears on your Miles&Smiles account dashboard.
Does Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles issue a physical membership card, and do I need one?
Physical cards came back in July 2024: Classic Plus, Elite and Elite Plus members can get an instant physical card at Istanbul Airport. A card is not needed to earn or redeem, and the terms treat first use of a temporary card number as the start of membership.

How do I change the name on my Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles account after marriage or a legal name change?
Since July 2024 you can change your name, surname and date of birth yourself by logging into your account on the website or the mobile app (rolled out first for Turkish-citizen members, who verify against their ID). If the online update is not available to you, the account-security page directs you to the feedback form so the membership team can amend the record.
I accidentally created two Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles accounts. Can they be merged?
The terms do not allow multiple applications by the same person, so a second account is a breach rather than a feature. Ask the Miles&Smiles call centre (1-800-874-8875 in the US) to consolidate the accounts before you try to use the Miles in the duplicate.
How do I close my Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles account, and what happens to my miles?
Either you or Turkish Airlines can terminate membership; Turkish Airlines gives two weeks notice. Once the notice period ends, Miles and other rights in the account stay usable for a further 6 months, unless Turkish Airlines terminated you for cause, in which case the Miles are forfeited.
Can I join Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles if I live outside the airline's home country?
Yes. Membership is open to individuals in any country where frequent flyer programs are legally permitted, and Miles&Smiles reported more than 25 million members across more than 180 countries in April 2026.
How do I update my email, address or phone number with Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles?
Edit your e-mail, postal address and phone in your Miles&Smiles profile online or in the app; the terms make you responsible for keeping them current because statements and program notices go to the e-mail on file. If your registered mobile number is out of date and you cannot pass the OTP check, use the feedback form and the security team will update it.

What do I do if I am locked out of my Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles account?
Use the password-reset function added to the website and app in January 2026. If a login from an unknown device triggered the lockout, the new-device email sent since November 2025 lets you verify or suspend that access.
If I join Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles after a flight, can I still claim miles for it?
The terms allow retroactive credit for any flight or partner service up to twelve months after it was taken, and the Claim Missing Miles tool simply asks for flights in the last 12 months; neither page adds a rule that the flight must post-date your enrolment, so a flight taken shortly before you joined can be claimed within that window (partner flights may have shorter deadlines).
Does Turkish Airlines have a separate program for small businesses, and can I earn in both?
Miles&Smiles accounts are for individuals only; the terms exclude legal entities, groups and associations from membership, so a company cannot hold a Miles&Smiles account. Business travellers earn in their own personal account.

Turkish Airlines earning is distance-based, not fare-based: on international flights you get a percentage of the flown distance set by booking class (from 25% for W/P/F/U promo fares to 150% for C/D Business), each with a minimum credit, while domestic Türkiye flights pay a fixed amount per sector (600 Miles in most Economy classes, 1,250 in C/D Business). How many miles do I earn per dollar (or per mile flown) on Turkish Airlines?
There is no per-dollar rate; Miles&Smiles pays per mile flown. Internationally a full-fare Y or B Economy ticket earns 125% of the distance (minimum 1,250 Miles), M/H/S/E/Q/A/O earn 100% (minimum 1,000), T/L/V/G earn 50% (minimum 500) and W/P/F/U earn 25% (minimum 250); Business earns 150% in C/D and 135% in K/J/Z for Classic members. Domestic flights are flat: 600 Miles in Y/B/M/H/S/E/Q/A/O, 300 in T/L/V/G, 150 in W/P/F/U, 1,250 in C/D and 1,000 in K/J/Z.

Do basic economy or light fares on Turkish Airlines earn miles?
Yes, but not much. The cheapest Economy booking classes (W, P, F, U) earn 25% of flown distance with a 250-Mile minimum on international routes and a flat 150 Miles on domestic sectors; the next band (T, L, V, G) earns 50% internationally and 300 Miles domestically. Only charter and free tickets earn nothing.

What elite bonus do status members earn on Turkish Airlines flights?
The tier bonus only applies in Business Class: Classic Plus, Elite and Elite Plus members earn 175% of distance in C/D and 160% in K/J/Z on international Turkish Airlines flights versus 150% and 135% for Classic, which the status page describes as 25% extra Status Miles on Business Class flights. Economy earning rates and the fixed domestic amounts are identical for every tier, and the bonus does not apply on partner airlines.

How long after a flight do miles post to my Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles account?
Miles from Turkish Airlines flights can take up to two weeks after the flight to post. If they are still missing after that, file a Claim Missing Miles request from Miles Transactions.
Do award tickets earn miles or status credit on Turkish Airlines?
No. Award tickets are excluded from the 40-flight route to Classic Plus, and only Status Miles from paid Turkish Airlines and partner flights count toward tiers; Bonus Miles are spendable only.
Which Turkish Airlines tickets earn no miles at all?
Charter flights earn nothing, award tickets and other award services earn nothing, and the terms exclude flights "made free of charge" from Status Miles. A codeshare flight operated by an airline that is not a Miles&Smiles partner also earns nothing, even with a TK flight number.
Do taxes, fees and surcharges on an Turkish Airlines ticket earn miles?
Taxes and surcharges never come into it: Miles&Smiles credits a percentage of the flown distance (or a fixed domestic amount) by booking class, so what you paid in fare, taxes or fees does not change the Miles. The only spend-based earning is through co-branded cards and partners.

If I upgrade a ticket on Turkish Airlines, do I earn miles on the original fare or the upgraded cabin?
On the original fare. Turkish Airlines states that the Miles earned on the Economy reservation remain valid after a Business upgrade and "there are no extra Mile earnings"; the Economy baggage allowance also stays as booked.
Do infant or child tickets on Turkish Airlines earn miles?
Child tickets do, once the child has an account: children aged 2 to 12 can join the Turkish Airlines Kids Club and earn Miles on their own flights, getting the 1,000 Welcome Miles plus an extra 1,000 with their first flight. Their Miles stay valid until age 18 and must be used by the end of the year they turn 21, and they cannot use Family Membership or Miles transfers. Membership starts at age 2, so an infant ticket has no account to earn into.

Do group bookings, tour packages or charter flights on Turkish Airlines earn miles?
Charter flights earn no Miles or Status Miles at all. Turkish Airlines Holidays packages earn 1,000 Miles per TRY 10,000 spent (Classic Plus and above can take a 5% discount instead), and scheduled flights inside a package earn under the normal booking-class table.
Do employee, industry or heavily discounted fares on Turkish Airlines earn miles?
Tickets issued free of charge and charter flights are excluded from Status Miles under the terms, and the accrual table only covers the listed booking classes (Y through U in Economy, C/D and K/J/Z in Business), so a staff or industry fare booked in any other class has no accrual rate. Heavily discounted public fares still earn at their class rate, down to 25% in W/P/F/U.
How do I add my Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles number to an existing Turkish Airlines booking?
Give it at check-in: Turkish Airlines credits Miles automatically when your Miles&Smiles number is provided during ticketing or at check-in, so a booking made without it can still be fixed when you check in. If the flight goes without it, allow up to two weeks and then claim it yourself through Claim Missing Miles on the website or app, within 12 months of the flight.

United credits 150% in J/C/D, 100% in Z/P, O/A/R Premium Plus and Y/B/M/E/U/H, 75% in Q/V/W/S/T/L and 50% in K/G/N, with F, X and I earning nothing; Lufthansa runs from 200% in A/F down to 25% in T with O/I/R/X/K/L/P excluded. Award classes (X, I, O) and the deepest promo fares are the usual non-earners across the alliance.

Yes. Miles earned on partner airline flights are listed as Status Miles on your statement and count toward Classic Plus, Elite and Elite Plus exactly like Turkish Airlines flights.
Does it matter whether a partner flight is ticketed by Turkish Airlines or by the partner for Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles earning?
The operating airline's booking class decides, not who issued the ticket: Turkish Airlines says accrual "is determined based on the fare classes set by the operating airline", and on a TK-ticketed codeshare the THY class shown may differ from the operating carrier's class, so a non-accruing operating class earns nothing regardless of the TK code.

My flight was credited to the wrong program. Can Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles move the miles?
Not out of Miles&Smiles: the terms state that Miles credited to a member's account cannot be transferred to another reward scheme account, so a flight that posted to Miles&Smiles by mistake stays there. In the other direction, Turkish Airlines' missing-Miles process only adds uncredited flights from the last 12 months and describes no way to pull credit across from another program.
Will Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles credit a flight if the name on the ticket does not exactly match my account?
No. The name and surname on the ticket must match the name and surname registered on your Miles&Smiles membership for a missing Miles request to be accepted.
What can I do if Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles rejects a missing miles claim?
The terms make Turkish Airlines the sole authority on whether Miles were earned and on appeals about a balance, and its records are taken as the basis. You can re-open the case with the call centre, but there is no independent appeal body.

How long do bank point transfers to Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles take?
Usually instant: Bilt, which transfers to Miles&Smiles at 1:1, says transfers are immediate in most cases but can take up to 48 hours, and they cannot be reversed once made. Bilt transfers go in 1,000-point increments with a 2,000-point minimum for Blue members (1,000 for Silver and above), as of September 2026.

Can I transfer miles back out of Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles to a bank program?
No. The terms state that Miles earned under Miles&Smiles "cannot be transferred to or combined with any other frequent flyer program", so bank points (Capital One at 1:1, for example) flow in but Miles never flow back out; the only outbound options are transferring or gifting Miles to another Miles&Smiles member.
Does Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles run transfer bonuses from bank programs?
Turkish Airlines does not run its own transfer bonuses: the campaigns page lists award discounts (30% off selected routes), partner earning promotions and the US Premier Visa welcome bonus, but no bank-to-Miles&Smiles transfer promotions. Must the bank account and Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles account be in the same name for a transfer?
For Capital One, yes: Capital One says the name on your Capital One account has to match the name on the travel loyalty account, so miles can only go 1:1 into a Miles&Smiles account in your own name. You need at least 1,000 Capital One miles to transfer, and once a transfer is finalised it cannot be moved back.

Do Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles credit cards have annual fees, and what perks offset them?
The US Miles&Smiles Premier Visa Signature card costs $99 a year and has no foreign transaction fees. If I cancel a Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles award booked with miles that have since expired, do I get them back?
They come back with their original dates: the terms state that refunded Miles "will have the same expiration date as when they were first earned", so Miles that have already passed their expiry return as expired and cannot be used. Extend Miles is the only way to revive them, since the Activate Miles feature ended on 1 January 2026.

Classic Plus, Elite and Elite Plus get holds free: 24 hours for departures in 5 to 10 days, 2 days for flights more than 10 days out.
Does Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles have an award waitlist?
Not for award seats. The only waitlist is for upgrades: since February 2026 Elite Plus members can press "Add to Waitlist" when Business Class is not available for an Economy-to-Business upgrade.

Yes. Award tickets can be upgraded on all Turkish Airlines flights with Miles, with an Elite Plus complimentary upgrade voucher, or with cash or card; upgrading an award on Star Alliance or other partner flights is not possible.
Are upgrade miles refunded if the upgrade does not clear in Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles?
A Miles upgrade is confirmed at purchase, so the question is mainly about cancelling: unused upgrade Miles are refunded for a fee (TRY 450 domestic, USD 70 international before departure), a cash upgrade you simply do not use is not refunded, and if Turkish Airlines itself cannot deliver the Business seat you can claim the full upgrade fee or Miles back. Elite Plus complimentary upgrades are refunded free.
Does Turkish Airlines sell cash upgrades or run upgrade auctions, and do they earn miles?

Nothing. Expiry is a fixed three-calendar-year clock that activity does not reset; the only way to keep expiring Miles is to pay 20 USD per 1,000 Miles to extend them by three years.

Not any more. The Activate Miles feature for expired Miles was discontinued on 1 January 2026; you can only extend Miles before they expire, at 20 USD per 1,000 for three more years.

There is no inactivity-closure rule in the terms; Miles simply expire three years after they are earned, and the only closure the terms describe is on a member's death, when the remaining Miles become non-transferable.

A member-to-member transfer does: transferred Miles are valid for three years from the transfer date. Purchased Miles simply carry the normal end-of-third-calendar-year expiry from posting.

Who owns Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles: the member or the airline?
The airline. The terms state that collected Miles and awards do not constitute a vested interest of the member, and Turkish Airlines is the sole authority over accounts and balances.
Do the Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles terms prohibit selling or bartering miles?
The terms say Miles may only be redeemed as the program rules allow and may not be exchanged for cash equivalents, award tickets cannot be transferred, and misusing awards or giving false information is grounds for termination. Member-to-member transfers are permitted only through the paid transfer feature.
What can Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles do if it finds miles were sold or awards were bought?
Turkish Airlines can terminate the membership without notice, declare Miles and awards already obtained invalid, and demand compensation for misused awards at the highest retail fare equivalent of the award, plus any further damages.

The unaccompanied minor service can be paid for with Miles through the redeem Miles features, alongside extra baggage, seats and lounges.
Can I pay pet fees with miles on Turkish Airlines, and do pet fees earn miles?
No. Pet carriage is not among the 14 ways to spend Miles on the Miles&Smiles redeem page, which does cover similar extras (extra baggage, sports equipment, seat selection and unaccompanied-minor fees), so pet fees are paid in cash, with Turkish Airlines' pet fee calculator giving the amount.
Does Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles offer military, veteran or government member benefits?
Miles&Smiles itself has no military tier or bonus. Turkish Airlines does sell discounted fares of up to 50% to Turkish-citizen veterans, disabled passengers and relatives of martyrs and veterans, selectable in the app since June 2023 without paperwork, and those tickets earn under the normal booking-class table.
Does Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles offer student or youth benefits?
Yes. The Turkish Airlines Youth Club, launched in July 2026 inside Miles&Smiles, gives young members 2,500 welcome Miles after their first flight plus flight and partner discounts, events and giveaways through the app.
Are there special award rules for medical or bereavement travel in Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles?
No. The award terms have no medical or bereavement exception, so the usual change and refund fees apply. What Miles&Smiles does offer is a fare discount: members with a disability get 20% off domestic flights and 25% off international flights departing Türkiye after submitting proof of disability once, and passengers with medical conditions may need a doctor's certificate dated within 10 days of departure.

How do I request wheelchair or accessibility assistance on a Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles award booking?
Exactly as on a paid ticket: Turkish Airlines asks for wheelchair requests at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure, confirmed in the booking, and the service is free for approved requests; requests made inside 48 hours are met subject to availability. Oxygen also needs 48 hours' notice with a medical certificate, and hearing-impaired passengers can use the sign-language video call centre.

Can I book group awards for more than nine people in Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles?
No. Award issuance is capped at five passengers per transaction, so a larger party has to be split into several bookings, each with its own taxes and its own change or refund fees.
