How do I join Lufthansa Miles & More?
Register free online at miles-and-more.com (or in the Miles & More app); your registration is the offer and Miles & More accepts it by issuing your 15-digit service card number, which you use straight away when booking. First login to the app also credits 500 miles.
Does it cost anything to join Lufthansa Miles & More?
Nothing. Registration with Miles & More is free, and the programme is funded by its 300-plus earning partners rather than by a membership fee.
Is there a minimum age to join Lufthansa Miles & More, and can children have their own account?
Members must be natural persons at least two years old and resident in a country where Miles & More is offered; minors need the consent of a legal representative (terms section 1.1). Children from age two get their own account through JetFriends, with 500 welcome miles and mileage protection until their 18th birthday.
Where do I find my Lufthansa Miles & More membership number?
Your 15-digit service card number is in your registration confirmation email, in your profile summary after logging in, and on the digital service card in the Miles & More app. If you hold a Miles & More Credit Card the number is printed on it too; if you can't find it, send the contact form with a photo of your ID.
Does Lufthansa Miles & More issue a physical membership card, and do I need one?
No. New members no longer receive a physical service card; the digital card lives in the Miles & More app and in your online profile. A Miles & More Credit Card automatically doubles as your service card, physical or digital.
Does Lufthansa have an app for managing Lufthansa Miles & More, and what can it do?
Yes. The Miles & More app (App Store and Google Play, in German, English, French, Dutch, Polish and Italian) holds your digital service card, shows your miles and Points balance, credits missing flights by scanning or photographing a boarding pass up to six months after the flight, includes the Travel Calculator, MyChallenge and a quiz, and gives 500 miles on first login.

How do I change the name on my Lufthansa Miles & More account after marriage or a legal name change?
Send an official document that shows both the old and new name (for example a marriage certificate), issued by a public authority, via the Miles & More contact form; the team then updates your profile. Name changes can't be done online or by phone for data-protection reasons.
I accidentally created two Lufthansa Miles & More accounts. Can they be merged?
The terms allow only one Miles & More account per person (section 1.2). If your duplicate is a Travel ID created through a Lufthansa Group airline site, you can link it to your Miles & More profile yourself on the profile page after logging in to the airline channel; only one profile can exist per email address.

How do I close my Lufthansa Miles & More account, and what happens to my miles?
You can terminate at any time in writing, with no notice period: send a message via the contact form or by post quoting your service card number and the address or email in your profile. After an ordinary termination your miles stay valid for 12 months (36 months if the account held more than 500,000 miles); after a termination for cause they last six months.
Can I join Lufthansa Miles & More if I live outside the airline's home country?
Yes, as long as you live in one of the countries where Miles & More is offered (terms section 1.1); the programme is run for members worldwide, with regional site versions and Miles & More Credit Cards in more than 20 countries.
How do I update my email, address or phone number with Lufthansa Miles & More?
Change your address, phone number or email any time under your profile on the website, or in the app under Profile & Settings > Personal information (tap the pencil icon). Profile changes require two-factor authentication; you can also call the Service Centre with your service card number and PIN.
What do I do if I am locked out of my Lufthansa Miles & More account?
You can log in either with your Travel ID email and password or with your service card number and PIN. Request a new password or a new PIN online; if you've forgotten your Travel ID, call the Service Team with your service card number and PIN, and if you can't find the card number, send the contact form with a photo of your ID.
If I join Lufthansa Miles & More after a flight, can I still claim miles for it?
Yes. Retroactive credit is possible even if you were not a Miles & More member at the time of the flight, provided you claim within six months of the flight and the ticket was issued in your name.

Does Lufthansa have a separate program for small businesses, and can I earn in both?
Lufthansa runs PartnerPlusBenefit, a free corporate programme in which a company earns BenefitPoints on employees' business trips with Lufthansa and up to ten partner airlines, redeemable for flights, upgrades, seat reservations, lounge access or onboard internet. It is separate from a traveller's personal Miles & More account.

How are miles calculated on Lufthansa flights: by fare paid, by distance, or by a fixed amount?
Two currencies, two methods. Award miles on Lufthansa are revenue-based: airfare (ticket price plus airline surcharges) x 4, or x 6 for Frequent Travellers, Senators and HON Circle Members. Status Points are fixed per flight segment by travel class and whether the flight is continental or intercontinental, not by fare.
How many miles do I earn per dollar (or per mile flown) on Lufthansa?
4 miles per euro of airfare for members without status, 6 miles per euro with Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle status. Airfare means the ticket price plus surcharges; payments for upgrades, seat reservation or excess baggage don't count.
Do basic economy or light fares on Lufthansa earn miles?
Almost all booking classes earn. On Lufthansa only booking classes I, O, R and X earn no miles or Points; a cheap fare in any other class still earns, just fewer miles because earning is 4 x the fare.
What elite bonus do status members earn on Lufthansa flights?
On Lufthansa Group fare-based earning, status members get 6 miles per euro instead of 4 (50% more). On partners that use booking-class earning, the Executive Bonus is 50% on Air Canada, Air Dolomiti, ANA, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, LOT, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City, SWISS and United, and 25% on Discover Airlines, Eurowings, Luxair and other airline partners. Points are the same for everyone.
How long after a flight do miles post to my Lufthansa Miles & More account?
Miles & More says it can take up to 14 days for the Miles and Points from a flight to be credited, so keep your boarding pass until they appear. If nothing has posted by then, request a retroactive credit online or in the app; its retroactive credit page accepts flights taken within the last six months.
Do award tickets earn miles or status credit on Lufthansa?
No. Award Flight tickets are generally excluded from earning miles and Points, as are industry-discounted tickets such as ID and AD fares.
Which Lufthansa tickets earn no miles at all?
Award Flight tickets, industry-reduced tickets (ID, AD), and Lufthansa booking classes I, O, R and X earn nothing. Some flight numbers are also excluded; the partner offer pages list them.
Do taxes, fees and surcharges on an Lufthansa ticket earn miles?
The earning base is the ticket price plus surcharges levied by the Miles & More partner airline, multiplied by 4 (or 6 with status). Payments for upgrades and extra services such as seat allocation or excess baggage are excluded.
If I upgrade a ticket on Lufthansa, do I earn miles on the original fare or the upgraded cabin?
Miles are based on the fare you originally paid; money spent on an upgrade is explicitly excluded from the airfare that is multiplied by 4 or 6.
Do infant or child tickets on Lufthansa earn miles?
Child tickets can, infant tickets can't. Membership starts at age two (terms section 1.1), so a child can hold an account and is credited for their own paid flights like any member, whoever pays for the ticket (section 2.2.1); on Lufthansa the miles follow the fare actually paid, at 4 miles per euro. An infant under two can't be a member, so a lap-infant ticket earns nothing.
Do group bookings, tour packages or charter flights on Lufthansa earn miles?
Group and package tickets are not excluded as such; what matters is the booking class and fare type. Section 2.2.6 withholds miles and Points for certain booking classes and special rates (reduced industry fares such as ID, AD and PEP tickets), for services booked with miles and for free flights, so a group or tour fare earns only if it books into a creditable class.
Do employee, industry or heavily discounted fares on Lufthansa earn miles?
No. Reduced tickets within the travel industry, such as ID and AD fares, are generally excluded from earning miles and Points, the same as Award Flight tickets.
How do I add my Lufthansa Miles & More number to an existing Lufthansa booking?
If the number was missing at booking, the easiest fix is after the flight: automatic credit can take up to 7 days, and if nothing appears you claim within 6 months via the online retroactive credit form or in the app (More > Credit Miles and Points > Flights, or by scanning the boarding pass), giving date, flight number, route, class and ticket number; some airlines also need the boarding pass. Miles usually land within a few days of the request.

How are miles calculated on partner airline flights credited to Lufthansa Miles & More?
Points are the same on every partner: fixed per segment by travel class and continental versus intercontinental. Award miles on non-Group partners follow that airline's booking-class table (a percentage of distance), and status members add a 25% or 50% Executive Bonus depending on the airline.
Which booking classes on partner airlines earn miles in Lufthansa Miles & More, and which earn nothing?
Miles and Points are earned in almost all booking classes on scheduled partner flights; only Award Flights and some special fares earn nothing. The exact excluded classes differ by airline and are listed on each partner's offer page.
Do partner airline flights count toward elite status in Lufthansa Miles & More?
Partly. Does it matter whether a partner flight is ticketed by Lufthansa or by the partner for Lufthansa Miles & More earning?
Yes, it decides how miles are calculated. Fare-based earning (4 miles per euro, 6 with status) applies when you book through a Lufthansa Group airline's own channels, or through a travel agency if the ticket number starts with 220 (Lufthansa), 724 (SWISS), 257 (Austrian), 082 (Brussels Airlines) or 101 (Air Dolomiti), or on a Eurowings ticket; on a ticket issued by any other airline, miles are based on fixed amounts or on flight distance and booking class.
Which non-alliance airlines partner with Lufthansa Miles & More for earning?
ITA Airways, Luxair, Eurowings, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Croatia Airlines and Lufthansa City are non-Star Alliance carriers that earn miles and Points (and even Qualifying Points) in Miles & More.

Automatic airline-partner credits can take up to 7 days after departure. After that, request retroactive credit online or in the app within six months of the flight.
Can I credit different flights on the same ticket to different programs, or must the whole ticket go to Lufthansa Miles & More?
Miles & More sets the rule per flight: each flight can only ever count towards one programme, and its miles and Points go to the Miles & More account entered in the booking by you or your travel agency, so a flight credited to another programme can't count for Miles & More as well. The help page says nothing either way about splitting the flights of one ticket between programmes.

Log in and use the online retroactive credit form (select the airline or partner), or in the app go to More > Credit Miles and Points > Flights and scan or upload a photo of your boarding pass. Check your account first, since automatic credits can take up to 7 days.
What information does Lufthansa Miles & More need for a missing miles claim?
Date, flight number, route, travel class and ticket number; some airline partners also require the boarding pass. For hotel, car or shopping partners keep the receipt or booking confirmation. The ticket must have been issued to the person logged in.

Only miles and Points for your own travel can be claimed, and the ticket must be issued to the person logged in; if your profile name differs from the ticket, fix the profile first (name changes go through the contact form with an official document).

Can credit card spending earn elite status or tier credit in Lufthansa Miles & More?
Only indirectly. Points can't be earned from spending, but holders of eligible Miles & More Credit Cards may exchange card-earned miles for status credit once per calendar year: 5,000 miles = 20 Points + 20 Qualifying Points, up to 25,000 miles = 100 Points + 100 Qualifying Points (never HON Circle Points). The exchange is irreversible.
Which bank points transfer to Lufthansa Miles & More, and at what ratio?
Only where Miles & More has an agreement with the other programme; otherwise the terms (section 2.1.2) rule out converting outside points into miles. The example on Miles & More's own site is American Express Membership Rewards in Switzerland: 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 award mile, open only to American Express cards issued in Switzerland. How long do bank point transfers to Lufthansa Miles & More take?
Usually a few days. American Express Switzerland, which converts Membership Rewards points into airline miles at typically two points per mile and lists Miles & More (SWISS) among its partners, says the transfer of points to miles usually takes place within a few days. You request it in the rewards shop under Travel, 'Transfer points to partner programs', and you must already be a Miles & More member.

Can I transfer miles back out of Lufthansa Miles & More to a bank program?
No. Miles can't be transferred out to any bank or third party (terms section 2.1.3); the only conversion the programme runs is miles into status Points for cardholders.
Do Lufthansa Miles & More credit cards have annual fees, and what perks offset them?
Yes. The US Lufthansa Miles & More World Elite Mastercard from Barclays carries an annual fee, which you must pay within the first 90 days to earn the welcome bonus. The perks that offset it are a Companion Ticket and two Lufthansa Business Lounge vouchers after each account anniversary, and the card charges no foreign transaction fees.

Do any Lufthansa Miles & More credit cards include a companion fare or free flight certificate?
Yes. The US Miles & More World Elite Mastercard gives the primary cardmember a Companion Ticket every account anniversary: an Economy Class companion fare on Lufthansa-operated flights from the US to Europe, the Middle East, Africa or the Far East, booked by phone with the Miles & More Companion Ticket Service (1-866-461-5399) together with a paid Economy ticket in booking class H, M, Y or B on the same flights. The companion still pays taxes and fees and usually a $60 round-trip weekend surcharge, and the ticket can't be used with Premium Economy fares or combined with award tickets.

In some markets, yes: Austria has a Miles & More Mastercard Business from Card Complete and Switzerland offers SME card packages; both count for the credit-card mileage-expiry suspension.

Yes. The online shopping section on miles-and-more.com lists retailers in fashion, electronics, sports and entertainment; register your service card number with the partner once or log in with your Miles & More details, and shopping credits can take several weeks to post. Lufthansa WorldShop earns 1 mile per EUR/CHF 1.
Does Lufthansa Miles & More have a dining rewards program?
There's no separate dining programme. Miles & More's everyday earning includes selected local partners where you show your service card when you pay, and many participating shops and restaurants flag this with the -M- mileage symbol.
Which hotel chains earn miles in Lufthansa Miles & More, and can hotel points be converted?
Hotels & Cars by Rocket Travel by Agoda (500,000-plus hotels) pays up to 18,000 miles per night, and Marriott Bonvoy stays credit 40 status Points per stay (max 120 a year) once accounts are linked, alongside Bonvoy points or miles. The site lists no hotel-point-to-mile conversions.
Which car rental companies earn miles in Lufthansa Miles & More?
Hertz pays at least 500 miles per rental and 1,000 miles for an electric vehicle, and lets Miles & More members use Gold Plus Rewards perks; the mobility page also covers other major rental companies, driver services and Hotels & Cars by Rocket Travel by Agoda.

Can I buy miles from Lufthansa Miles & More, at what price, and is there a yearly cap?
Not directly: Miles & More's own answer is that miles, Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points cannot be bought. The routes it points to instead are the earning promotions that multiply miles, the Bundle&Go shop (run through Points.com) whose travel bundles come with large mileage credits, and exchanging a limited number of miles for Points and Qualifying Points.
Does Lufthansa Miles & More run bonus promotions on buying miles?
No, because Miles & More doesn't sell miles: its help page says miles, Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points can't be bought. Its promotions instead multiply the miles you earn, and Bundle&Go (run through Points.com) lets you earn lots of miles quickly while getting special travel offers.
Can I gift miles to another Lufthansa Miles & More member?
No. Miles, Points and accounts can't be transferred to anyone (terms section 2.1.3). You can instead book Award Flights for friends and relatives from your own account, or set up Mileage Pooling with up to one other adult and five children.
Are there phone, internet, energy or subscription partners that earn miles in Lufthansa Miles & More?
For subscriptions, yes in Switzerland: the Swiss Miles & More site lists partners for subscriptions to leading daily newspapers (print edition, e-paper or app) and partners from the book industry, and you earn extra miles for recommending a newspaper subscription to friends.

Indirectly, through points you convert. On the German Miles & More site, Shell ClubSmart members can convert the ClubSmart points they have earned into miles, or redeem miles for ClubSmart points. Miles & More's PAYBACK page adds that PAYBACK points (Germany's largest bonus programme, with more than 30 retail partners and over 600 online shops) convert into miles from 200 points, whenever you choose or automatically twice a year with the mileage subscription.

How do I qualify for elite status in Lufthansa Miles & More: by spending, segments, distance or points?
By Points. Every segment earns a fixed number of Points based only on travel class and continental versus intercontinental; flights on Lufthansa Group and co-issuing partners also earn Qualifying Points, and Business/First on those airlines earn HON Circle Points. Fare paid and distance are irrelevant.
What are the qualification thresholds for each Lufthansa Miles & More tier?
Frequent Traveller: 650 Points including 325 Qualifying Points in a calendar year. Senator: 2,000 Points including 1,000 Qualifying Points. HON Circle: 6,000 HON Circle Points in a calendar year.

When does the Lufthansa Miles & More qualification year start and end, and how long does status last?
The qualification period is the calendar year. Status starts as soon as you reach the threshold and runs until the end of February of the year after next, so a minimum of one year (achieve in April 2024, valid to February 2026).
Do partner airline flights count toward Lufthansa Miles & More status?
Star Alliance flights earn Points but not Qualifying Points, so on their own they can't get you status; the 325 or 1,000 Qualifying Points must come from Air Dolomiti, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Discover, Eurowings, ITA Airways, LOT, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City, Luxair or SWISS.

Not at the moment. Miles & More runs status matches only as occasional campaigns, through a status match portal operated for it by Loyalty Status Co, and that portal currently takes registrations of interest for a future match rather than applications.

Normally no, but 2026 has an exception: from 29 July to 30 September 2026, members without status who hold a qualifying Miles & More Credit Card (issued in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria or Belgium) can buy Frequent Traveller status for EUR 650 or 80,000 miles, valid until 28 February 2027 and credited within 7 days. Points themselves are never sold; the top-ups are exchanges, with card holders swapping up to 25,000 miles a year for up to 100 Points + 100 Qualifying Points and Frequent Travellers with 800 Qualifying Points up to 20,000 miles for 125 of each.

Not online. Section 1.3 of the Award Flight terms lets you combine Star Alliance and Miles & More partner flights on one award and prices open-jaw routings as 50% of each round trip, but any stopover or non-standard connection has to be arranged with the Miles & More Service Team, as does a World Award Flight (one Atlantic and one Pacific crossing, at least 10 days between the first and last long-haul segments).

Lufthansa's APD page says UK Air Passenger Duty applies to all flights departing UK airports; children aged 2 to 11 (since 1 May 2015) and young people aged 12 to 15 (since 1 March 2016) are exempt in Economy, but APD still applies to every Business and First Class booking.

No. Taxes, fees and Miles & More airline partner surcharges must be paid by credit card and cannot be settled with miles (the earlier option to redeem extra miles against fees was removed in June 2025).
Are taxes and fees refunded if I cancel a Lufthansa Miles & More award?
Depends on the option you choose. Either only the taxes and fees are refunded and the miles and surcharges are kept, or, where the fare permits, miles and surcharges are refunded too subject to a minimum charge of EUR 50 per person. On a partly used ticket, taxes are refunded pro rata by fare rules and miles are not refunded.
How can I reduce the cash cost of a Lufthansa Miles & More award?
Not with miles any more: since 3 June 2025 miles can't be redeemed for taxes, fees or airline surcharges on any airline, and Flex Plus awards were discontinued on Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and Lufthansa City. EUR 50 (or local equivalent) per person and rebooking for chart-priced awards, and only the date or time can change, not the route; taxes and surcharges are recalculated. For dynamically priced awards the change conditions and fee are those of the fare shown at booking. See change fees.
What does Lufthansa Miles & More charge to cancel an award ticket and redeposit the miles?
A minimum of EUR 50 per person to get miles and surcharges back where the fare allows it. Flexibly priced awards on Lufthansa Group airlines follow the fare you book (Basic, Light, Comfort, Comfort Plus or Flex): Miles & More's Award Flight fares page says each fare has its own refund options, shown on the booking platform for each flight, but gives no fee amounts. Mileage bargains can't be cancelled at all.
How close to departure can I cancel a Lufthansa Miles & More award?
The Award Flight terms set no fixed cut-off, but you must cancel before the scheduled departure: a ticket can still be issued up to 180 minutes before the flight, and if you no-show without cancelling you forfeit the option of a mileage refund and only get unused taxes and fees back.
What happens to my miles if I no-show a Lufthansa Miles & More award?
If you don't show up and haven't cancelled in time, you lose the miles and the airline surcharges; only unused taxes and fees are refunded.

If the airline cancels your award flight, Miles & More's help centre says to contact the Miles & More Service Team or the operating airline. The self-service 'Change flight' option under Current bookings works only when your award fare allows rebooking, and Fly Smart awards and mileage bargains can't be rebooked.

Can I cancel just the return of a round-trip Lufthansa Miles & More award?
Only through the Service Team, and once a ticket is partly used the miles are not refunded; taxes, fees and surcharges are refunded only in line with the fare conditions.
Can I change the passenger name on a Lufthansa Miles & More award?
No. Under section 2.4 of the Award Flight terms an issued award is not transferable and may not be sold, exchanged or auctioned, so the passenger name cannot be changed; the way around it is that you may book the award for a relative or acquaintance in their name from the start, with the miles debited from your account.
Are change and cancellation fees waived for Lufthansa Miles & More elite members?
Not the award fees themselves. The one status waiver is that HON Circle Members may rebook onto an earlier flight on the same day free of charge on Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian.
Are the change and cancellation rules different for partner awards in Lufthansa Miles & More?
Yes. Chart-priced partner awards have fixed rules: EUR 50 per person for each rebooking, only the date or time can change (not the route), and a cancellation that returns the miles costs at least EUR 50 per person, if the airline's fare allows a refund at all. Flexibly priced Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and Lufthansa City awards instead follow the rebooking and cancellation policy of the Award Flight fare you chose for each direction, which is stated in the offer.
What does Lufthansa do if my award flight is cancelled on the day, and can I be rebooked on partners?
Lufthansa tells you by email, text or the app and rebooks you automatically, free of charge, on an alternative flight to the same destination in the same class; you can pick a different option yourself in the Help Center or Chat Assistant, or have the unused ticket refunded there. Its disruption page promises only Lufthansa alternatives (plus Deutsche Bahn on some European routes), not partner airlines, and EU Regulation 261/2004 rights, meal vouchers after two hours and hotel nights apply to award passengers like anyone else.

Its Reservation with price guarantee, which holds a Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian or Brussels Airlines booking for 48 hours for a surcharge of USD 7 to 35 per person as of September 2026 (not credited towards the ticket price), is not available if you're paying with miles.
Does Lufthansa Miles & More have an award waitlist?
Not for award tickets. The only waitlist in the Award Flight terms is for Upgrade Awards, which the Miles & More Service Team can waitlist (it runs until 72 hours before departure and miles are debited only if the upgrade clears); an Award Flight itself is booked only when a seat is available.
Can I redeem miles for any seat on Lufthansa, or only for designated award seats?
Only designated award seats. The Award Flight terms say an award can be booked only if seats are available in the booking class and travel class set aside for Award Flights on that route, so availability varies by date, booking and travel class and destination; that applies to the flexibly priced Lufthansa Group awards too. When is the best time to book a Lufthansa Miles & More award?
It depends on the airline. On Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Lufthansa City, Discover and Air Dolomiti the mileage price moves with the booking date, route, travel date and time, travel class and fare (per Miles & More's Award Flight fares page), while other partners price from the fixed chart. Which fares are eligible for a miles upgrade on Lufthansa?
Upgrades are limited to a maximum of two classes (Economy to Business, not to First), depend on the original booking class, and Premium Economy or First availability varies by airline. Award Flight tickets cannot be upgraded.

Can I upgrade an award ticket with more miles in Lufthansa Miles & More?
No. It is not possible to book an Upgrade Award on an Award Flight; book the higher cabin outright instead.
Are upgrade miles refunded if the upgrade does not clear in Lufthansa Miles & More?
Miles are not taken until the upgrade is confirmed: on a waitlist the debit only happens if a seat opens up, so nothing needs refunding if it doesn't clear.
Does Lufthansa sell cash upgrades or run upgrade auctions, and do they earn miles?
Yes. Lufthansa runs upgrade bidding: after booking you log in to My bookings, name the price you are prepared to pay by credit card, and can change or withdraw the offer up to 49 hours before departure; about 48 hours out an email tells you whether it was accepted. Group tickets, bookings with infants under two, pets or extra-comfort seats and tickets issued by other airlines are excluded, and an accepted bid earns award miles and status credit for the higher class flown.

Can I pay for seat selection with miles on Lufthansa?
No. Lufthansa states it is currently not possible to pay for a seat reservation with Miles & More miles.
Can I pay for in-flight Wi-Fi or food with miles on Lufthansa?
Yes for Wi-Fi: FlyNet Premium can be bought with miles instead of cash, at 2,000 miles (flights up to 90 minutes) or 2,600 miles (longer short/medium haul), and 5,000 miles for two hours or 8,300 miles for a whole long-haul flight (as of 2026). Yes, for top-tier members: Status Events offer VIP tickets to exclusive events for miles to status customers with more than 10,000 Qualifying Points towards Lifetime status; tickets are personal, one per member per event, non-transferable and non-refundable.
Can I convert miles to cash or statement credit in Lufthansa Miles & More?
No. The terms (section 2.1.1) state there is no option to convert or cash in miles and Points for euros or any other currency. The nearest thing is MilesPay in the Miles & More app, which Miles & More's help pages say lets holders of a German Miles & More Credit Card issued by Deutsche Bank redeem miles for purchases wherever Mastercard is accepted.
Can I use miles to extend status or buy tier credit in Lufthansa Miles & More?
Yes, in small amounts: Frequent Travellers who reach 800 Qualifying Points may exchange up to 20,000 miles for up to 125 Points and 125 Qualifying Points, and eligible credit-card holders can swap up to 25,000 miles a year for up to 100 Points and 100 Qualifying Points.

Do Lufthansa Miles & More expire?
Yes. Each batch of miles is valid for 36 months from the date of the flight, stay or purchase and expires at the end of that quarter (a flight on 12 December 2025 expires 31 December 2028), unless you hold status or a qualifying credit card. See do miles expire.
What counts as activity to keep Lufthansa Miles & More from expiring?
Nothing: activity does not extend the clock. Each mile has its own 36-month life, and the only exemptions are Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle status and, in some countries, holding a Miles & More Credit Card with at least one purchase a month.
Can expired Lufthansa Miles & More be reinstated, and at what cost?
No. Section 2.3.9 lets miles expire 36 months after they are earned unless protected, with the upcoming expiry shown on your account statement at least a quarter in advance, and the terms provide no mechanism or fee for reinstating miles once they have lapsed. See expiry.
Are Lufthansa Miles & More elite members or cardholders exempt from expiry?
Yes. Miles don't expire while you hold Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle status (the 36-month clock restarts when status ends), and credit-card holders are exempt after three months of card membership as long as they make at least one qualifying purchase per month.

A Miles & More Credit Card used at least once a month, which after three months suspends expiry on the whole account; otherwise redeem the oldest miles first, for example via Cash & Miles from 3,000 miles or a WorldShop item.

Does Lufthansa Miles & More close inactive accounts?
Not for inactivity as such: the terms have no dormancy clause, only that miles expire after 36 months (2.3.9). A member may terminate at any time, the operators may terminate with four weeks' notice (4.1.1) and without notice for cause such as fraudulent trading in miles (4.1.2).
Does a bank transfer or a purchase of miles reset the Lufthansa Miles & More expiry clock?
No. New miles arrive with their own 36-month validity and do nothing for older miles, which still expire at the end of their own quarter.

What the terms say about who owns miles, selling, brokers and enforcement.
Who owns Lufthansa Miles & More: the member or the airline?
The terms of participation never describe miles as the member's property: they are a redemption currency the programme operators administer, trading in miles and Points is forbidden (section 2.1.3), a credit made in error can be reversed (2.2.6), fraudulently acquired miles can be refused (2.3.8) and the operators can end the membership with four weeks' notice (4.1.1). Treat them as a licence to claim awards rather than an asset you own.
Do the Lufthansa Miles & More terms prohibit selling or bartering miles?
Yes. Section 2.1.3 states that neither miles nor Points nor the account can be transferred to third parties and that trading in miles and Points, in the form of a sale, exchange, auction or any other transfer, is forbidden, as is arranging such trading or purchasing miles; only transfers the operators explicitly authorise are allowed.
What can Lufthansa Miles & More do if it finds miles were sold or awards were bought?
The operators may refuse to redeem wrongfully acquired miles, block or confiscate award documents obtained with them, withdraw status gained through fraud, terminate the membership extraordinarily (section 4.1.2) and claim damages; after such a termination remaining miles stay valid only six months.
Does Lufthansa Miles & More audit accounts, and what triggers a review?
The terms reserve the right rather than describe a formal audit: section 2.2.6 lets the operators reverse any credit that should not have been made, 2.3.8 lets them refuse redemption of wrongfully acquired miles, and 4.1.2 allows termination without notice for cause, naming fraudulent trading in miles, Points or award documents and giving significant false information as examples.
Is it against the Lufthansa Miles & More rules to book an award for someone who pays me for it?
Yes. Awards may only be given to people with whom you have a personal, mutual relationship (relatives, friends, acquaintances); selling or trading an award, or arranging that, is forbidden and can lead to confiscation of the ticket and termination.
Can Lufthansa Miles & More change its rules or devalue miles without notice?
The operators reserve the right to change or add to the terms at any time (section 5.4). Changes are announced in writing; you may object within two months or terminate, otherwise they take effect. There is no legal entitlement to membership.
Are Lufthansa Miles & More taxable?
The terms of participation contain no clause on income tax for miles. The only tax language is section 2.3.10, which makes the member responsible for all taxes, fees and surcharges linked to issuing or using an award, so any personal tax treatment of miles is between you and your tax authority.

Hours vary by country and are shown on the contact page. Frequent Travellers and Senators have dedicated hotlines in many countries, and HON Circle Members get a personal HON Circle service with 24-hour availability in selected markets.
What do I do if my Lufthansa Miles & More account is hacked or miles are stolen?
Change your password immediately, then contact the Service Centre by phone or email so the account can be suspended if necessary. Miles & More never emails asking for your PIN or login details; type the address into your browser rather than following links.

How do I escalate a complaint about Lufthansa Miles & More?
Write to Miles & More GmbH, which runs the programme: use the contact form on miles-and-more.com or post to PO Box 71 08 26, 60498 Frankfurt, Germany (terms section 5.6). There is no outside arbitration to escalate to, because section 5.7 says the operators are not obliged to take part in arbitration proceedings and cannot offer them; the terms are governed by German law.

What does an infant cost on a Lufthansa Miles & More award ticket?
10% of the adult mileage for an infant under two who doesn't occupy a seat, plus any taxes, fees and airline surcharges; an infant with their own seat is booked as a child at 25% off.
Can an unaccompanied minor travel on a Lufthansa Miles & More award ticket?
Lufthansa Group airlines' unaccompanied minor service escorts children aged 5-11 from check-in to arrival (available on request up to 17); Miles & More's family pages list it alongside child awards at 25% off, so book the child's award and add the service with the airline.

Can I pay pet fees with miles on Lufthansa, and do pet fees earn miles?
No on both counts. Lufthansa's pet rules have no mileage option: you register a cabin pet (a small dog or cat, up to 8 kg with its carrier) online at least 72 hours before departure and pay the route-based fee at check-in or at the Lufthansa service counter at the airport. The fee earns nothing either, because Miles & More's Lufthansa earning counts only the airfare and excludes extra services such as excess baggage.
Does Lufthansa Miles & More offer military, veteran or government member benefits?
Lufthansa does, through Veterans Advantage: members of that programme (US veterans, active-duty military, National Guard and Reserve members, and next of kin such as spouses, parents and children) get up to 5% off the published base fare on Lufthansa-operated flights as of September 2026, booked on lufthansa.com through a special Veterans Advantage booking site. Itineraries must start in the US, a booking can include up to eight travellers, and taxes, carrier surcharges and certain promotional web fares are excluded.

Students get their perks through Lufthansa's student fares rather than a Miles & More tier: anyone aged 16 or over (no upper age limit) who is enrolled in or admitted to higher education can verify it in their Travel ID (valid for a year) and book student fares on Lufthansa Group-operated flights from selected countries, though not within Europe. These fares usually include 2 x 23 kg checked bags (1 x 23 kg on US and Canada routes), flexible rebooking and, on most, a refund option.

How do I request wheelchair or accessibility assistance on a Lufthansa Miles & More award booking?
The same way as for any Lufthansa ticket, since Lufthansa's assistance form makes no distinction for award bookings: register at least 48 hours before departure (after that the best assistance can't be guaranteed), once for the whole journey even with connections, in German or English. Choose WCHR (help over distances), WCHS (steps as well) or WCHC (full assistance, including on board); electric mobility devices, assistance dogs and medical oxygen need separate forms.

There is no group award product. Lufthansa's group desk handles cash bookings for 10 or more passengers (online request from Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Belgium with 28 days' notice, names due 14 days before departure) and its page says nothing about paying with miles; award bookings for several passengers, and group or waitlist requests for Upgrade Awards, go through the Miles & More Service Team.

What are the most recent major changes to Lufthansa Miles & More?
The big change came on 3 June 2025: Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and Lufthansa City awards left the fixed chart and now cost miles based on the airline's ticket price (fare, class, route, travel time and booking date), Flex Plus and mileage bargains ended on those airlines, miles can no longer pay taxes, fees or surcharges, and the chart for all other partners changed for the first time since 2019. Discover Airlines and Air Dolomiti have since moved to flexible pricing too, and in July 2026 the programme announced its rebrand to Lufthansa Group Miles & More.
